4 Student Reviews of Azusa Pacific University : Azusa

  • I have been a student at Azusa Pacific University since 2010 and it has been a great experience for me. I’ve been a para-educator in the Lake Elsinore school district for several years and I found that I have an affinity for the special-needs students, so it made sense for me to get my teaching degree. I noticed that a number of the teachers I worked with were graduates of Azusa Pacific and they all told me what an excellent teaching program the school offered.
I went to an information meeting and the enrollment counselor, Dr. Robert Waltz sent me a list of the General Ed credits I still needed to earn so I had to spend about a year at a junior college before I could enroll. Once I got in I found the teachers to be knowledgeable and interesting to listen to (some of them are real characters) and the staff was very helpful and supportive. Since I went to the satellite branch in Murrieta I can’t comment on the surrounding area or the housing situation but I am considering doing my Master’s program at the main campus. I enjoyed being with the same group of people through the whole 18-month program as they were a fun group and we really got along and supported each other. The program is a bit expensive ($24,000 for the bachelor’s program) but the financial aid office was very competent in arranging my loans. The One-night-per- week format is convenient for me since I work during the day but you really have to be self-motivated to get all the homework in on time. They have an extensive mail-order library service that is really fast and dependable. For those who’d rather not be in a class setting they have recently made it possible to do the whole program online.
Some people might be put off by the fact that it’s a Christian college, but actually there were several people of other religions in the class and they were never made to feel unwelcome because of it. In fact I found that we were welcome to share opposing views on any subject. There were debates on such subjects as abortion, marriage equality and school discipline. We were encouraged to use our creativity in presenting our assignments, for instance in presenting reports on children’s literature my group gave our reports as if we the panel on “The View”. Another time we gave a report on the subject of school bullying as characters from “The Breakfast Club”.
As I was preparing to enroll the staff worked closely with me, making sure I had all the pre-requisites I needed and had all my General Ed out of the way. They are also currently advising me as to what I need to begin the next step of earning my Master’s. The staff at the local branch as well as the main school is quite caring, accommodating and always willing to give encouragement when it’s needed. I would definitely recommend this school

  • I LOVE APU. Its super expensive though, and Azusa can be a little sketch, but Pasadena is so much fun and its 10 minutes down the freeway. Plus, apparently Playboy rated us #2 on hottest girls on a college campus. WOOOO
