One Student Review of Full Sail University : Online

I’ve attended a few Universities, but Full Sail University was my favorite. For the type of school that it is, I think it’s amazing – It’s not perfect by any means, and I’ll get into that too.
I’ll start off by saying that the school is expensive. It’s not the most expensive school, but compared to a local community college it’s pretty high. They also only offer a few degree programs – but you’ll notice that they’re all in a similar category. Web Design, Game Design, App Development, Cinematography, Animation – that sort of thing; you can’t get a medical degree from here, for instance.
Full Sail does have a campus that’s located in Florida – and the campus is amazing. It’s beautiful and high tech, there’s an onsite movie studio (of course, one of their biggest programs revolves around it) it’s also full of gamers, which is good for people like me – we understand one another, and all that. Though, a lot of the students are online students – some students have done both, depending on life’s circumstances at the time.
Some people might say that this college is designed to crank out a high number of graduates – some call places like this a degree factory – but I highly disagree. Today’s world is different than the world we lived in a few years ago. This type of college is where it’s at, and this is how college will be when our kids are attending. This place isn’t a joke. The classes are appropriate and relevant – they’re also not easy.
The pace is extremely fast. The programs are designed to allow a student to earn a degree much faster than at a normal university (A 4 year Bachelor degree takes roughly 2 and a half years) and the class schedule is a lot different. Students only take one class at a time, and each class lasts a month. This might sound easy, but for a lot of students it can be rough – because – if you fall behind, it’s extremely difficult to catch back up. The lessons are designed to build on top of one another, so if you miss one week’s assignments, the next week may prove difficult for you.
As I mentioned earlier, the classwork is relevant and appropriate – it’s not easy, but it’s not incredibly difficult – but it is what you need at the time. The classes teach you real world knowledge. If you want to learn to create websites or apps – you start off learning about various design theories – things that will give you that foundation, and then you get into classes that teach you how to create websites and/or apps – if you want to be a programmer, the only way to learn is to do – you can’t just read a textbook. That’s what Full Sail does – they give you classwork that forces you to get your hands dirty, you’re actually learning by creating apps and websites and movies, etc,
I’ll also mention that everything I learned was up to date. All of the code that I learned was bleeding edge “this is what’s happening right now” technology, and I loved it. I graduated from there knowing how to handle my own. I highly recommend this place to anyone – just remember, it’s fast paced and expensive – but you if you want to make movies, create music, create websites, apps, or programs – then get in there and get rolling.
