4 Student Reviews of Platt College : Ontario

  • My recent experience has not been favorable. My instructors have taken vacations midstream in instruction. Instructors contradict one another’s information. The list goes on. I will see if anything comes from my comments.

    Overall Score: (1.54/5.00)
  • WHERE then, do you suggest prospective students go, instead of Platt?

    Overall Score: (1.27/5.00)
  • I went to SPLAT around the sametime you did and felt exactly the sameway about the “teacher” whom I’m sure was the same one I had. It’s been 3 years since I’ve completed this (so called school) and have been able to get hired on to one company. But since “this teacher” was to lazy to teach and the only way one would get attention from him was if you were an attractive female in a skirt I can not get a job in the field I am still paying back for… Do yourself a HUGE favor! If you really want to learn anything about web design DO NOT GO TO PLATT…

  • Platt College – Ontario, CA campus

I am currently a student attending Platt College in Ontario, CA. I was class of 2009, receiving my AA in Graphic Design. Since then I am still attending Platt in pursuit of my BA in Web Design.

Graphic Design Program. (Sept 08 – Nov 09):

I was pleasantly surprised with ALL of the teachers who ran the classes for the graphics. They knew their stuff, were actively involved with helping the students succeed and they actually taught the classes. They never did anything for us and if they did, they explained each step so I could thoroughly understand what was going on. If you’re thinking of attending Platt College – Ontario for a degree in Graphic Design, I give my highest recommendation.

Web Design Program. (Dec 09 – present):

Since I enjoyed school so much for the Graphic Design program I decided to continue my education and go for my BA in their Web Design program. The first few months of the program were almost as easy the AA program. Once I got to a particular teacher, whom I’ve had for most of the web classes, I noticed that the program was no longer enjoyable.
Instead of actually teaching, he did a lot of having us mimmic exactly what he did. I have been very confused and even though I ask questions, he just had me do the same thing over and over or he would do it for me, without any explanation of what it was he did.
Another teacher I had for multiple classes, never taught. He would speak on the first day of class, pass out his syllabus and then you could forget about learning anything in his classes. He would spend the rest of the time watching movies and playing games on the computer. There was never any work in his class which means he based his grades solely on attendance.

Needless to say, due to receiving failing grades multiple times (for illegitimate reasoning) my graduation date has been pushed back 3x and currently they are trying to push it back, yet AGAIN!
My graduation date is set to be in 2 weeks and not only are they trying to push it back again but I also am finding out problems with the financial aid department regarding my loan and paperwork.

    CONS:
    1. Low academic standard
    2. Very expensive
    3. Poor quality teachers
    4. Poor transition from College-Career (No internships and job-placement is poor)
    5. No room for make-up work or make-up hours in order to receive grade change
    6. You do not find out how you are doing in the class until the grades are given out at the end of the module.

    PROS:
    1. Fast education in a tech career
    2. Teachers (a select few) and staff are friendly
    3. Always up-to-date with industry standard
    4. Graduates can re-take courses for free at anytime

I am greatly disappointed with how the BA program has turned out. They are severely lacking good quality teachers, a solid learning basis and communication amongst staff and students.
The graphics is where my strength and creativity lies. As far as web design is concerned, I feel strongly that I have wasted a lot of money and time attending this school for that degree.
Luckily and fortunate for me I found a job that will continue to train me in this area where I am lacking. However, I am embarrassed that I am unable to walk into that job completely confident in my web skills and that I need further training.

I hope this review helps anyone making a decision about attending this school.
