I studied in college of vocational studies which is a college which falls under DU – Delhi University. This college is ideally situated in North Delhi – closer to the heart of Delhi and all the happening hangouts for youngsters.
Pros –
1. The best part about our college was that it offers courses which are different from the others . If you are not into the usual science / commerce streams then CVS is the place for it. It offers “different” courses like – Tourism (my course), Office Admin, Marketing, Human resources, Book publishing , Materials management and more. It also offers post grad courses with foreign languages like German and French as part of curriculum.
2. Competitive elections
3. Huge ground/ park and clean area
4. All good eating joints, movie halls and clubs / pubs in the vicinity
5. Bus cards and cheap travel cards for all students
6. Great theatre club – some passouts of College of Vocational Studies are not big stars in popular Tv series , on major Indian Channels like Zee Tv, Star Plus.
7. Close to all public modes of transport.
Cons –
1. Not very particular about attendance.
2. Administration is very poor and long lines / mismanagement in office work.
3. Student body president has a lot of control and can mis use it
4. Elections and admissions are biased towards students with a heavy wallet
5. Ragging can get out of hand at times though these days strict measures are being taken to control it.
6. Sports take a back seat. They don’t have basic sports in place – like table tennis , swimming, etc. Just a cricket/ soccer field and a basket ball court.
So overall, I had a great 5 years studying Tourism (grad and post grad) in the college. However, I did meet people who weren’t too happy with it. You can find pros and cons in every university – especially more cons in Universities of India. But in this cutting edge competitive world, I think our uni fairs pretty well when compared to others in / around Delhi.
I would give it an overall 7 out of 10 from an overall perspective . Though for me , it was really a 10 on 10 experience .
