One Student Review of Varsity College: Port Elizabeth

  • Posting a review after ten years should be a statement on its own, and here I am posting. I attended Varsity College ending in 2002 and would like to share my views and opinions.

Welcoming and informative would best describe the classes. The lecturers were well informed and the vast majority of the classes that I attended were headed by a tutor who actually cared for his or her students. Careful attention was provided to all students to ensure that they understood the subject matter being taught entirely. Varsity College used to boast an almost impeccable pass rate, I am fairly certain that this would not have changed.

Students will always form separations and groups amongst themselves however at Varsity College there was no animosity to be seen. People were generally friendly and most kept some form of contact even after leaving college. I still have friends who I met during my studies. Varsity staff were also welcoming of students from other institutions, always playing host to many learners.

On the topic of friends, social activities were not lacking. The pupils were assisted by staff in the planning of many activities which I attended and many other activities (to this day) which I have just heard of. Close to free reign was given while I was at school, the governing body was always very lenient while still keeping an order of things. Parties were thrown as parties should be.
Varsity College provided me a great social experience but this did not detract from the education itself, in contrary I found myself eager to attend classes, more open to ask questions and I always left class with a better understanding of what was being taught. Examinations never proved a problem due to the high quality of education provided.
I was never involved in extracurricular events (besides the odd party) however I do know of many people who excelled in sport and other areas, having Varsity support them all the way. I was never really the outdoor type but Varsity College seemed to make provision for those interested in such activities.

The only complaint that I could have is that the campus is not very large; however this cannot be avoided due to the location itself. The area that is occupied is however well utilized and “class rooms” leave ample space for learners to experience class comfortably.

Education in South Africa is generally quite expensive; staff on enrollment provided me with all possible options of payment, providing me ample options to cover my education. The college’s rates were quite affordable and in comparison to other institutions offering similar programs, they were cheap!

All in all I would highly recommend Varsity College. I was provided with an education that benefits me to this day, a social experience that I would not change and a few lasting friends. Highly affordable with high standards, Varsity College has remained dependable for many many years, thank you Varsity!
