this must be an adminstrator worried about the rep;utation of this school!!!
I am one of the 75% that did pass on the most recent course listed so I am fortunate.
Every bad thing people have said here is TRUE and the place is a waste of time money and effort. Save yourself the pain and go the HARD WAY and get into a REAL nursing program. RN program at a university or JC is the way to go, as I realized this now. I am lucky enough to have an LVN job guaranteed which is NO THANKS to westmed.
Know what their ‘job placement’ is? Some guy sits in the office and looks at craigslist and other cheesy websites, seaching for LVN JOBS all day. That’s it – so much for any supposed ‘placement assistance’. Also, good luck on them placing you in quality clinical site, cause I got stuck in the WORST nursing home on the planet, with examples of HOW TO BE A BAD NURSE. Guess what? Westmed thought the place was a “good” nursing home with good nurses in it. Clearly this indicates just how clueless westmed and their terrible instructors are.
DONT FALL FOR THE TRAP DONT SIGN UP FOR ANY OF THEIR CLASSES!!! JUST READ ANY OTHER REVIEW OF THE PLACE AND U WILL SEE JUST HOW BAD IT IS. IF YOU ARE FOOLISH ENOUGH TO SIGN UP, TRUST ME JUST GIVE IT 2 WEEKS AND YOULL SEE HOW BAD IT IS.
THEN WHEN IT COMES TIME FOR FINALS (IF YOU EVEN MAKE IT) YOU WILL SEE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN ROBBED OF AN EDUCATION BY SCANDALOUS CROOKS
This organization lacks the very basic skills, methodology, education and cadre of instructors to even call themselves a college. The experience there was PATHETIC and I can assure you, 100% of the negative commentary posted here is true and accurate. If you read ANY of the negative feedback, it is consistently the same issues: Poor instruction, poor staffing / lack thereof, tremendously UNPROFESSIONAL staff, inappropriate staff behavior. Lest we not forget: staff / student fraternization & harassment, poor response to ANY kinds of requests for assistance / student services. Moreover, even if this WERE a quality school, the instructors would need to arrive ON TIME…
The pass rates, student dissatisfaction, ineptitude of staff and ENDLESS poor reviews all speak for themselves.
On a closing note:
While I had the great misfortune of being a nursing student there, I befriended one of the Paramedic students. The EMT classes are just as horrible (actually WORSE) than the nursing program. I felt really bad for the Paramedics and EMTs, who got treated like garbage. The instructors were all egotisitical, sexist, vulgar male Firemen who truly did harbor a ‘holier than thou’ stance towards the EMT people. Including racially insulting an asian kid because he had a bad accent (mind you the guy had an advanced COLLEGE DEGREE; unlike ALL of the EMT instructors).
Let’s start with Chris when he came and spoke in class WOW. Every other word was “Dude” or a cuss word…. Nice!!!! Or he really liked to talk about smoking WEED…. Ummmm that’s what I want a medic that loves to be high taking care of me or my family. When you speak in a class Bro, know your audience.
Pac-Man loves to come to classes and talk down to students, and be a smart ass because no one can ever know as much about being an EMT as him. In between playing grab ass with the female students Pac loves to use all kinds of four letter words. REAL CLASSY!!!!!
Both guys also like to inform the students of how much you better kiss there asses because once you finish the school if you do not have there approval you will never be an EMT…… Ummmm your an AMBULANCE DRIVER!!!! Wake up!!!
Westmed do you realize what goes on in class? Do you know that classes are disorganized??? Do you as a school approve the instructors to speak to students like they do??? Respect needs to be taught to your instructors and maybe they wouldn’t be so full of themselves…… but I doubt it because there EGOS are way to BIG to ever allow it……..
This organization works in the same fashion as: used car salesman, predatory lenders, drug dealers, organized crime…
The “nursing” program cranks out non-English speaking bafoons who blaze through the NCLEX at an amazing 50% pass rate or so (don’t believe me? Check the state website in California). The “Paramedics” are even more dismal of failures; random groups of vulgar, aggressive, perverse WANNABE firemen who pass the “lecture” days doing tobacco in class and cursing loudly throughout the campus.
Trust me – I disenrolled from the “nursing” program in San Jose and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Instructors – fail
Curriculum – fail
Admission standards – non existent
“Job placement” – ditto
Credits – 100% absolutely, no matter what they say NON TRANSFERRABLE & NOT RECOGNIZED ANYWHERE
Price – exorbitant
Students – either clueless foreigners, hard case ghetto welfare “moms” or mysogynist males
Staff – unprofessional, chronically tardy, poorly educated themselves & NOT QUALIFIED to “teach”
Facilities – mediocre
Parking – ridiculous
Prospects of being actually respected, as a west med “graduate”? – Good luck
If you google – search this “school” you will see that the resounding majority of reviews from BOTH current and formers staff and students are pitiful.
Mark my words: someday this place WILL end up embroiled in a massive lawsuit, debacle or scandal related to the utter incompetence, negligence and outright unethical nature of West Med!!!
The average west med student who does actually graduate AND certify or license is a liability.
-Teachers are a joke, always unprepared, coming late, they grade off emotion, there are teachers pets
-faculty unwilling to help students, always saying they will help you later, never actually helping you. or directing you to someone else who has no clue what to do, having you running in a circle every time for one answer.
-the president is a joke, just cause you have a PHD doesn’t mean you can treat people like s**t. he always talks to you as if you were a kid, trying to read you.
-the faculty never has answer but they have a good vocabulary base, because of instead of saying no, they just beat around the bush.
-never go by that handbook that they give you, they “changed” the handbook rules around not telling anyone or giving the new version, and people were kicked out because of rules which no one knew. and when asked about it, they claimed in the contract you signed handbook is likely to change. You could change anything in the handbook anyone would know about it, unless you give a copy. also for the first half of our class we were graded 80% test and 20% class participation..but the hand book said 60% class participation and 40% test, no one knew until about 3 months in. then they went back and had to change all the grades. .and those who failed some course technically didnt and wasted days making up the work.
-the A&P there is a joke its 4 weeks of learning A&P you cant, we didnt even learn anything, we joked and took breaks the whole time.
there are many other things wrong with this school, i just dont have all day to sit here and write about a crap school…. COMPLETE JOKE waste of MONEY…listen to everyone…..i could probably tell you that Chris Yamamura and Gary Cruz are probably some one from westmed trying to make them self look better..
the only good thing about this school is that santana row is so close.
your better off going to unitech
The entire school is a joke, I cant believe I am stuck into this place for countless thousands of dollars. It is horrible, the LVN class is a joke and the Paramedics are worse.
When I was going there, the Paramedic class was only like 5 guys and they were just as miserable and unhappy as our nursing class. It is pathetic, not only do I feel unprepared for nursing, ALL of the other classes are unprepared and not educated good.
Yamamura is a fool who was scammed into believing this program is not a joke and the Cruz guy is also just as dumb.
If youre reading this notice that EVERYONE says it is a scam and a joke. I will report West Med to the state if they keep messing with me PS….. good luck getting transcripts. My nursing program was SUPPOSEDELEY worth lots of college credits, no school on earth takes ‘credits’ from this scam school.
if you sign up for nursing here, get a refund before it is too late. Same for the EMTS too. I would never want a nurse, emt or paramedic from this place to take ‘care’ of my family or me. My husband also hates this place because he is helping me pay all the money I owe for my joke of an ‘education’
<<<—– Wow, I can't believe someone in our class would write this. No wonder our class looks bad. Just for the record people, don't down our whole class because of this comment that was made by ONE immature loud "Woman". This came from that ONE student that constantly has complained, doesn't get along with staff because she likes to talk back to the staff, and will talk behind staff & students back & try to be fake to your face. People like that get caught up & quite frankly looks very unprofessional & childish on their part.
If you are expecting the regimented, well-established comforts of UCLA or UCSF than yes – you likely will be let down and resentful. Yet bottom line, you are ultimately fulfill three roles when you attend a school such as this – you are A) a consumer B) a student and C) a mature, grown adult and the beholder of your own destiny. With regard to the three aforementioned roles you fulfill, take this into consideration: We all sign the contract, we all become students and we are all responsible for our success or lack thereof in our respective programs. Be it EMT, LVN, Paramedic or whatever the end-user of the product is the student…. The mature, adult learner who must make or break their own grades when it is all said and done.
Furthermore, if one expects West Med to have the resources of a public / federally funded and well-established institution such as UCLA, etc. you are foolish. Accept that for whatever reason, you made the decision (Not at gun point might I add) to enroll and you can drop just as easily.
The programs at this institution have been restructured, reformatted and re-invented numerous times. The school has expanded and contracted in various fashions, many of the ‘issues’ I have seen cited I feel are a result of proverbial ‘growing pains’. I feel that the remainder of the complaints lodged in an anonymous, unprofessional and childish manner are moot points and ‘red herring’ arguments. Even if West Med had PHd or BSN nursing instructors by the hundreds, with endless lab supplies and clinical sites the LVN students would complain regardless… If the Paramedic program was ran by former staff of the UCLA Daniel Freedman Paramedic program, with endless resources and everything one could dream of some one would not always be happy..
I feel that ultimately, one must take into account that school is: stressful, challenging and demanding. Add in any compounding factors such as children, spouses, work or even mundane life issues and it becomes even more difficult. I have read a lot of childish excuse making, cry-baby whining and shifting of blame. I have read a large volume of commentary on this website that sounds like stressed out, frustrated and unhappy students – which I have seen while attending not only West Med, but other colleges as well. It is unprofessional and lame to see people anonymously trash the staff and outright slander them the way high school students do on ‘myspace’.
I will offer this solution to any current (or former) West Med students of any discipline (EMT, LVN, Paramedic) – Come see me and I can show you how to write a formal business letter, if you feel that you are so incredibly disenfranchised and cheated in life approach the manner in an adult way and put your concerns into writing.
Otherwise, please refrain from being anonymous internet ninjas and practice some maturity. I am also completely willing to assist anyone from any class with studying as well. If you have some kind of feedback, please come talk with me – I am in room 103 Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 0800-1700; I will gladly tell you to grow up in person if you are childish and I will always be glad to help you if you are sincere about your career in medicine.
The instructors instruct, the students learn.
The consumer consumes…
The mature, intelligent adult takes responsibility for their actions.
Be part of the solution not the problem.
In closing, I concur with Mr. Yamamura – he illustrates many valid points and I know that what he alleges is true. Not one student in this school will have an instructor there when it is time to take that NCLEX or NREMT exam… So quit blaming the staff – we are the beholders of our own destiny.
I am disturbed by some of the commentary I read, you intend to be in medicine? I would suggest developing some coping skills before getting out into the real world. When someone upsets you you can’t call them ‘cunts’ and be passive aggressive, you have to be adult.
Build a bridge and get over it.
Learn “verbal jiu-jitsu”
Learn how to write a professional business letter.
Learn how to adapt to stress…
Learn how to be adult, life isn’t always fair.
I think the moral of the story is this: “Expectations are resentments”
If you expect something and the expectation is not met, naturally, one feels resentful.
This is where the whole being a big boy / big girl comes into play; move on….
Think: Bridge, build, get over it….
To all that are afraid to say who they are… Who the hell do you think you are or trying to prove?
All of the sudden you become some righteous smart-ass student and put individuals, a program and a school on blast. What i have to say to all of you is… GROW UP. People who do things like that on places like this are not adult enough to voice your opinions and eloquently express your feelings like an adult to the person or persons that you have a problem with, and address those issues that pains your feeble lives. remember “drama” only happens to those that partake in act of a poorly casted show of a badly written storyline. Why have or be part of a drama when you can script your own play. All the authors of the negative comments follow the same theme, all of you are followers of the “so-I-can-feel-better-about-myself” train, because leaders standout and all of you blend in; leaders show how to succeed and take pride of the success of others… And none of you are leaders… Just a bunch of chitter-chatter, you know, the peanut gallery… You.
Now I found out that most of you that posted a comment here are new to this school or individuals that don’t know any better and those mindlessly listening to a website (with a whopping 9 “concerned student” comments) over finding the truth for yourselves which leads me to believe you do deserve better, and find a school that offers a GED. Educated people will do their own research by finding the answers they are looking for, from the source itself and talking to the students and the instructors and even sitting in a class to make your own “educated” decision. For those of you that wrote these comments (I mean the LVN students) I know that you are still in the class… Why? Possibly because you couldn’t find another program that offers you what Westmed has to offer or do you have a better excuse, i mean explanation. I would love to hear someone reply how someone twisted their arm to enroll with this school.
Please tell me where do you find a school that has its administration staff talk to their class and instructors and puts themselves in a position of vulnerability, to show that their is nothing to hide and that they really promote the open door policy. Probably you wouldn’t know of one cause you never been to a college or higher level institution, where there is no such thing. This school exemplifies what the true definition of the “open door policy” actually means. This is truly a school where if you put in the effort, everyone in this school will reciprocate the effort ten-fold and back you in your endeavors. For those that think they should get a program on cruise control so that they can get an easy certificate because you paid all this money, is seriously delusional. As much assistance that I received from my instructors and the staff, I still went out on my own and looked for more resources and opportunities. From jobs, ride-alongs, to searching for preceptors and everything else in between, I went out on my own because I have the passion to gain more knowledge, a passion to better myself, a passion to prepare myself to be more proficient, a passion to be great in this field. These are things that the school would and will do for me and my peers because it is what they are supposed to do, but why not be more proactive in my education and goals, make a name for myself and set a precedence; because that is what adults who are self-reliant, confident and have passion in what they do, do.
Who am I, well I’m the guy who isn’t afraid of putting his name out there, i am also the recent graduate of the Paramedic Intern Program. I am the one that put in countless hours on top of the already long days that we have, picking the brains of my instructors and seeked guidance of administrators like Jolyn, Brian, Beatrice, Mike, Ryan, Emily, JoJo, Sandy and Fatimeh; and some of these people had nothing to do with my program but they were easy to talk to and ready to help. This program too, cost a little more than many other programs but now I can see why, and appreciate it. I’ve been with this school since I decided to begin my career in EMS with the enrollment in the EMT Program which was definitely affordable by any standard and then continuing my educational goals and enrolled into the Paramedic Program ASAP. Due to the passion by my instructors and staff, there was no other program or school which I would have continued with and be more proud to an alumni of. I tried everyday to mimic the passion and commitment that my instructors like Dave Garcia, Nick Trinidad, Ryan Ira, Jason Freeland, Paul Sandigo, John Kralovich, Capt. Brian Endicott, Brian Greene, Nephty Landin and Hannika, and the many others that spared their free time, had bestowed in my education and the diligence of the administration to get this school recognized in the manner of respect, which I had the privilege to be a small part of… oh thats right, because I put in that extra effort and interest to want to be a part of.
I am proud to be called a Westmed Paramedic Intern and be counted as part of the past, present and definitely future paramedics from Westmed College. I hope that you all feel the same if not now, at least someday when you realize who actually cares about your education and tries to share their real world experience so that you can find real world applications to correlate to those words found in a text book which you so “diligently” study for. Maybe this field isn’t for you if you cant deal with real people treating you like the adults that they think that you are, adults that i hope we have. Thick skin is the name of EMS, and within this field and just so you know, you will never get along with everyone and may not like what you always hear or thought you heard, but dammit you better still be able to perform your job proficiently.
I’ve associated and live my life by the phrases that I represented in my life: As a member of an elite secret society of fraternal gentleman, “Diligence and Commitment”; As a member of the worlds most honorable, bravest and finest, “Honor, Courage, Commitment, and Semper Fidelis”; And as a soon-to-be member of the most daunting but rewarding profession on earth, “Do No Harm.” May you find yours.
Now this here is a real comment
All of you students should get in touch with the Better Business Bureau, the District Attorney, and contact your state representative and request retrubution for this fraudulent school.
I did have a lot of fun and did learn a lot though.
Be prepared for idiot students who don’t give a crap and disrupt classes. Some of the instructors disrupt classes with their own agendas and lack of maturity.
Unfortunately, helping out does not work both ways there.
Make it work for you, whatever that takes. That’s all I can say.
It was fun, not perfect.
If not think long and hard about the best program for you. Often it is better to wait even with a waitintg list. Take coures at your preferred College towards desired degree and it often gives you more of an upper hand. Above all follow up with your dreams. Have a great future. Connie Turney RN
