To put it in a nutshell, I wish I had gone somewhere else. I went through the Counseling Psychology program and while I did meet some talented people, I met some real idiots too. It seems like CBU just allows anyone to enter the Psych program as long as you have the money. I attended classes at the graduate level with a girl who didn’t know who Jung was. If that seems astounding to you, wait until you meet the people who think that you should just “give it all to the Lord”. I once heard that the directer had ordered the person who was doing the interviews not to turn anyone away. That is a real shame considering these are the people who may be counseling other people at some point.
There are some really out there professors. There is one in particular who the student call “Dr. Jesus” and practically fall on the ground in hysterical worship when he walks by. There is another one there who is a raging b***h but will talk about “how good the Lord is” or excuse her bad attitude with a giggle and an “I’m Irish”. Many of the other professors are just as religiously weird. I guess I should have expected that going to a Baptist school.
Don’t bother sharing your opinion about anything, especially if its not in line with their religious beliefs. They don’t want to hear it. And you will get treated like a suspected communism supporter from 1950’s America. Also, the administration is a mess. High tuition does not equal customer service. It will equal accusations that somehow their mess is your fault though.
In short, I wouldn’t send my dog there. This place isn’t about academia at all. It’s about elitism and David Koresh type professors presiding over their fiefdom. Oh, also expect alot of females with Michelle Duggar like glazed over, isn’t the Lord good personalities.
This school has alot of problems, greed being one of them. I earned my M.S. there and honestly wish I had just gone to a state school. It’s too expensive and not worth the money. The class sizes are huge and there are some over top psychology teachers who think they are God’s gift to psychology and humanity. There are a few good profs in there if you are lucky enough to get them, but it seems that most of them are just hiding their own Axis II diagnosis. Their administration is a mess and they will give you the run around for even the most simple of questions. This school is also the epitome of right wing fundamentalism as well. Their Dean’s philosophy is “A Ring by Spring” meaning your son or daughter will be engaged by spring. It’s just not a healthy place for normal people. Do yourself a favor and take your hard earned money elsewhere.
