GuestGorgeous campus, academics ok, but not worth the out of state tuition.
However, if you are concerned about your child’s health and well-being and a responsible administration…beware. They engage in borderline unethical charges for questionable services, services never received, duplicate classes ( when switching majors). Their student health center is completely negligent in proper care and responsible follow up.( My daughter suffered a sports injury there and the student health center’s response and recommendations were so non-attentive and incorrect that my daughter’s injury was seriously exacerbated. The result was two surgeries which ended her sports career and affected her mobility. Surgeons said the severity of the injury could have been minimized if the UVM Health Center had just followed basic health procedures). When I asked UVM to help with the bills, the health center was non-responsive and after I contacting the Presidents office basically denied wrong doing.Subsequent talks with UVM lawyers and showing them doctors report and UVM Health Center’s shoddy paper trail, resulted in the school unofficially admitting their fault. I was advised to sue, but I don’t believe in all the litigious behavior. In retrospect I should have.
Second big thing: When applying for an overseas study program, my child worked with a school counselor and did all the proper leg work. At the last minute UVM’s OIS office (overseas administration dept at UVM) told my daughter she couldn’t go with no explanation. She repeated asked why and was finally told there was a one day overlap between last day of exams and first day of study abroad. When my daughter cleared it with her professors to take the exams early, OIS still denied her with no reasonable explanation.
I had to get involved. After contacting UVM staff and the outside coordinating company, everyone agreed my daughter’s work around was fine and there shouldn’t be a problem. However OIS still refused and sent my daughter aggressive and threatening emails saying they would take no responsibility and she ” was on her own” nor help her in processing her paperwork. The emails were completely unprofessional, disrespectful and intimating.
After contacting the UVM’s president’s office, I received a phone call from the head of OIS who was so inept and full of sopmoric excuses I was shocked.
After many calls and email on my part, they finally ( at the very, very last minute) put the paperwork through. I wasted hours of my time and my daughter was seriodly stressed from the experience.
Now UVM has the audacity to charge me for OIS processing fee ( I already paid all the tuition, housing costs, etc). When I questioned them about being chared for a service which we didn’t receive, they refuse to acknowledge my question and offer no explanation.
There are other small things where the same dynamic occurred.
Customer service and attention to student well-being = 0

GuestBeautiful campus, horrible administration
isn’t this true about everything in Vermont? isn’t it like the most over-regulated bizarre state government in the US

Unfortunately it’s the only language that most American companies (and universities) understand. They will never say sorry or admit any fault in fear of legal repercussions, so it’s often the only option.
