2 Student Reviews of Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC) (Okaloosa Walton Community College)

  • My experience attending this college has been very pleasant. The overall student body is very diverse in age, race and majors. This gives you the opportunity to meet plenty of different people while attending school. This college just recently (within the past 5 years) went from a community college to a state college so at this time the options for degrees are still very limited. While I was enrolled I was taking two classes on campus and two classes online. The options for online classes are available for just about any course. I really enjoyed taking my classes online because I liked to do my work at home rather than in a classroom setting. The online program is very organized and the teachers are very familiar with how distance learning works and are good at keeping up with all of their students online. I was always treated with respect and courtesy by all the staff and professors. The staff in the career center is also very helpful and really cares about all of the students and preparing them for their careers outside of school. Before I began taking college courses I had to get my GED and was able to obtain that from this college. The college offers a class and tests for a very low price ($30) to prepare you for the test and then you can take the test on campus when you are ready; after you pass the preparation tests. Overall my studies at Northwest Florida State College were very fulfilling and enlightening. I would recommend this college to anybody trying to juggle the obligations of family, work and the pursuit of a higher education. They are very willing to work with people and understand that as adults many of us have a lot of other responsibilities while still having the desire to attend and complete college. The atmosphere at this college in my opinion is really great. The professors truly care about your success, are not overly demanding, and do not place insane expectations on students. As far as someone looking for the college party life, this is not the place to go. This campus is located in a small town and there really is not a lot to do in the area. Most of the student body seems to be adults who are married with children or older individuals just going back to school as a hobby. This school also offers a lot of non-degree courses such as computer tech. certifications and law enforcement officer training. Most of the law enforcement officers in the area actually received their training from this school. In conclusion, this is a good college overall for someone who is not looking for the party college atmosphere. If you are looking to become a law enforcement officer this is certainly the place to go, you will not beat the tuition rate that they offer.
