Fort Lewis College is a selective public liberal arts college that launches careers and changes lives through top-quality academic programs, experiential learning utilizing the Southwest’s landscapes and peoples, and a welcoming community on an inspiring mountain campus. At Fort Lewis College, though, the best learning happens outside the classroom. Here the Southwest’s diverse landscapes, businesses, communities, and peoples are your classrooms and collaborators. Through field studies, undergraduate research, service learning, internships, and study abroad opportunities, you’ll apply your coursework in meaningful, positive endeavors. – Lindsay Nyquist, Social Media Coordinator

  • Michaela says:

Fort Lewis College has been an amazing school to attend and my time here has been positively transformative. It is here that I feel I’ve found a niche and I really enjoy being able to find people I relate with. At Fort Lewis, there are intellectuals with whom I can have intelligent and thought provoking conversations, professors with whom I can have close and personal interactions, and supportive friends with whom I can enjoy college experiences. I feel encouraged by faculty and staff to go after my dreams and I am very happy I chose to attend Fort Lewis for an undergraduate degree.

I transferred from Colorado State University-Pueblo, so I will have only spent 2 years at Fort Lewis when I graduate in May 2014. However, it has been an absolute wonderful experience. I am an English-General Option major and my professors and classes have been great. The faculty truly care about their students, and that is very important. In applying for graduate school, I had the letters of recommendation I needed because my professors not only knew how I did in their class, but they knew me as a person–my name, my personality, etc. The area around town is great, and our student fees pay for bus passes. I wish I had found Fort Lewis College when I first transferred from my community college.

The liberal arts education recieved at Fort Lewis College encourages students to take their knowelege and apply it to current problems. About 30% of FLC students study abroad in their 4 years gaining a global perspectives . FLC and the Durango community offer many ways to serve from local initatives to our awesome Village Aid Project-Engineers Without Borders program which aids international communities. I know that my educational foundation at Fort Lewis College is made for global health, and I am excited to build on my knowlege with future ambitions that would be possible without the experiences I had at FLC. Oh and the location in the San Juan Mountains will convert you to a outdoor enthusiast…even if you grew up terrified of nature!

I absolutely love Fort Lewis. I’m a current student here. I’m a english comm major, and I love my professors and I have great realationships with them all! The students here are great. As well as all of our extra curricular things. I play volleyball here for the school, and I can’t imagine a better school. The downtown area is a fantastic place to hang out with friends or parents when they come to town. It’s worth checking out for sure. The scenery is gorgeous and never gets old. It just started to snow, so I’ll be up on the mountain tomorrow!

  • Ashley says:

Going to Fort Lewis College has given me a much different college experience than most. There is a very definite culture to the town of Durango and Fort Lewis students get to go along for the ride. As a smaller school and smaller town, we get to experience more time with professors and a very tight knit sense of community both on and off campus.

FLC is a Fantastic school!I was transfer student two years ago coming from Glendale Community College. Personally for me coming to Durango was one of the best decisions I have made. I have never felt like just a number in a class, all of the profesors take the time to get to know who you are and are willing to help you do your best. The students at the Fort are super friend and awesome people.

  • Tina says:

I love the Fort. Coming here was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The classes and the professors exceeded my expectations. The friends I’ve made here are one of a kind. Durango itself is an experience no one should miss out on. If you like sunshine, snow, awesome people, new experiences, and having fun while learning about the world, I highly recommend checking out Fort Lewis College.

  • Shaun says:

Fort Lewis has been a great fit for me. The small feel of the school and student focus by Faculty and Administration help cultivate a very “open-door” feel to the campus. As a Chemistry major, the quality of my education is top-notch. The focus by the faculty on funded research creates opportunities for students in the Natural and Behavorial Sciences to participate in publishable research as early as their Freshman/Sophmore year. The sciences at Fort Lewis are not on “easy” mode because of the liberal arts focus; instead, a high expectation exists by Faculty and the challenge of the coursework is on par with much larger University institutions.

Beyond the campus, Fort Lewis is in the heart of the San Juans. It’s tough to even begin to describe the endless opportunities for play that exist. The entire town is active and the 300+ days of sunshine a year keeps the Winter Months feeling warm and pleasant.

FLC is an amazing school. I was a transfer student here last year coming from the University of Colorado-Boulder. For me coming here was the best decision I’ve ever made. The professors actually know your name and care to get to know you as a person. Also, the classes are fun and peoeple are great!

  • Holli says:

Fort Lewis is a great school. The people are friendly and the professors are very knowledgeable. There is a lot to get involved in, and it is easy to try out new classes for fun or to help decide what you want to study. Overall, Fort Lewis has exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it to any prospective student.
