One Student Review of Hofstra University School of Law

  • In my experience as a college freshman, i had to say that hofstra leaves a lot to be desired for several reasons. If it isn’t for the lack of parking for commuters because on campus students take up all available spaces, its the sheer lack of quality in any realm of the school. Good professors are rare and terrible ones who don’t know what their doing are a dime a dozen. Eating at hofstra is masochistic whether you have a food plan or pay in cash; which hofstra swear by their food plan being superior. In most cases, you whined up with a food plan in the following scenario. Since they coerce you into joining of a food plan because paying in cold-hard cash lands you about 25 cents on every dollar in over-pricing, you whined up with about 2000$ spent for a semester meal plan. You slowly wittle it down because you cautiously spend as hofstra overprices commodities like nomads from the golden-age. Therefore by the end of the semester, you have about 500$ worth of food money that you can’t use and whined up buying about 50 boxes of twinkies and all your immediate facebook friends breakfast and lunch for the next 2 weeks. If that wasn’t enough of a reason not to go here, booking classes is uncomfortable and irritating. As a freshman, you have to stay up till 12 in the morning where they make you register for classes for the sheer happenstance that by your patient you manage to get a single class you need for your major. As far as classes go, classrooms are uncomfortable and teachers should quit if they aren’t enjoying their job enough to teach well. The worst is their science department. If you go to hofstra, you will most likely encounter 90% of the time, a science professor that would rather use a stone and wood to teach you something rather than engage you.

Hofstra also is rediculously expensive. You’d think charging 42,000$ a year for tuition, you’d get what you pay for, but its far from that. Hofstra is trying so desperately to gain attention among other succesful universities, that they cater to the those who run off their parents credit; resulting in rediculously high costs for everything.

If that wasn’t bad enough, campus staff is terrible and rude. On my first day here, unable to get parking in the midst of the clusterfuck, i was granted understanding of the hofstra crew in the form of a 50$ tuition fine and a boot because i parked in a terribly labled campus parking lot.

The area around hofstra is also terrible. Just google Uniondale.

All-in-all, hofstra is a lack-luster school who i, like many, were coerced into going to because they flash a large 18,000$ a year scholarship in front of. There are better schools on long island, hofstra has serious administration problems that will blind sight them in the future and ruin their desire to be ivy-league.
