This Community College seems to have lost its focus on how to support its students. Community colleges have always been an option that when you aren’t accepted or can’t afford to attend an ivy league or university there’s always community college. Now I’m not putting down community colleges. In fact I think they’re great because they give some a fighting chance to prove to themselves and others what they can do! Many community colleges are better than the others. My two daughters have attended this college for 3 to 4 years to get into nursing program. They don’t have perfect grades but they work very hard and never give up. In fact they both have CNA (certified nursing assistant)certs and currently work as such at a local hospital. They are appreciated and respected there for how well they do their jobs. They have nurse and doctor recommendations. The last time they spoke to the head of admissions it all came down to a goal of repeating a class and getting an “A” and bringing their GPa up to a 3.0 ..They did both and still they were denied and given the usual form letter as if they just started this process. They told us at an open house how they don’t want students working jobs..they need to concentrate on school only? Since when did a work ethic become a bad thing, and I’m sorry most of us out here in the real world are losing homes, jobs etc and you want parents to spit out the money? Students who work as well as get through school should be commended and supported for their hard work, not punished for it. I’m not saying my daughters should get RN handed to them. I’m saying they have earned the chance to get into the program to make it the rest of the way…I’m sure this college doesn’t have 100% graduation rate so some of those they seem to choose to accept into the program weren’t the right choice were they? I know this is only my family’s personal experience and many might say sour grapes, but you know what? wait till it happens to you.
