This institution never quite made the transition from a 2 year University to a 4 year University. First off I will say it is affordable and they are offering more conveniences as far as on-line classroom learning is concerned
they have things very usable but depending on your instructor you might not use certain functions that are available to you. “although their D2L classroom interface is old and antiquated”. Campus amenities are nice, The quality of education you get is a different story. Most of my classes both in my major of Information security and general education felt a bit sub-par “almost like a high school classroom at times” Some basic statistics show their retention rate is less then 11 % and most students here transfer out to a different 4 year college in the area, such as N.S.U. , O.S.U. Stillwater, and O.U. If you are looking for a cheap place to knock out basic classes and get a basic tech degree then this is the institution for you!! but if you find yourself striving for academic challenge and view college as an investment in yourself then don’t. Save your money, I would advise looking elsewhere or just doing a 2 year degree here. This institution has only recently been offering 4 year degrees and still uses the 2 year degree academic standards. such as low GPA requirements and academic acceptances/exceptions. You don’t even feel like you do any of the classwork at times. In the information Technology program most of your 3000-4000 level classes are taught in the same manner as your 1000-2000 level classes there is very little independent work done in the classroom everything is teamwork oriented
I agree that the workplace today demands this trait but you don’t want to be dependent on this. you need to be able to demonstrate to yourself you can do it on your own in my opinion this college and particularly the information Security program Rob you of the chance to develop that skill. I can’t speak to much about the town sense I commuted and worked in Tulsa but from what I have heard it’s pretty trashy lots of fast food restaurants and a casino and a few hole in the wall bars I think there are some small stores, yes there is a Walmart.
also you will find online that this school’s academic rating seems to be about a B+ one reason for that is that the teachers will hardly ever fail a student in fact the only way to fail here is to not show up to class at all, other then that you will most likely pass. I never met a kid halfway into a semester say I’m failing I need to withdraw. It was always for some other reason. I also worked as a work-study on this campus for a brief two semesters and found that I learned more that way then I did in the classroom working their helped me build the confidence I needed to pursue the job I wanted as a Computer Specialist I spent 4 years in the army as an Infantry man and 1 year in H.S as Computer Help-desk agent for a call center. Working at this institution reaffirmed me in my ability to do the types of jobs I seek to do. so sense the college provided me with that opportunity I can’t
ethically give it a bad overall rating. that in mind I give it about a C-
