It fills me with disgust to think that I wasted thousands of dollars and 6 months of my life at this pathetic excuse for a “university”. I would rather be forced to cut a 15 acre lawn using only my teeth everyday for the rest of my life than spend another week at this pathetic school. To begin; the student population consists of about 600 students with over a 50% transfer rate after the first year. About 500 of these 600 students call themselves “athletes” for the school, when in reality, most of them would have trouble getting out of bed and walking six feet to their dresser without stumbling into the wall and getting concussed. I went to the school to continue playing the sport I once loved, the coach seemed like he could really help me improve and I thought the majority of students would be sociable. I have never been more wrong in my entire life. 90% of the students are hicks from rural Kansas, coming straight out of a farm town. Most of them have a tooth or two and can carry on a conversation at least until they are supposed to speak. One of the few positives of Ottawa is the night life. If you enjoy having absolutely nothing to do besides going to a “house party” where it is simply a cluster of people crammed into a 3 sqft living room where it’s bring your own beer and the music has to be kept at a quiet volume so you don’t disturb the neighbors , this is the place for you! Also once a week the bars might get a costumer or two. The intramural sports are fantastic as well! They have 2 or 3 opportunities throughout the whole year, the best thing is, it’s all student run, so its horribly unorganized and they don’t even tell you when your team’s games are. As far as the cost, it somehow earned the status an accredited institution, so the total cost runs at about $35,000 per year, everything included. I’m not sure what in the world all this money could possibly got to with the university being such a dumpy place to find yourself. All the money must go to the groundbreaking classroom buildings with staircases from when Lincoln was president, that only squeak enough to be heard in South America. There is absolutely nothing good about this place except the fact that after your first two days attending the university, there will not be an unfamiliar face within a 300 mile radius. It’s an absolutely atrocious school and it blows my mind anyone would stay there longer than a semester. I am a student who luckily enough got out of this heart-rending hell hole after just six months. When I managed to escape I had been completely brainwashed of what a half-attractive female looked like. There is no way the “women” at this college are considered female in anyone’s eyes. Of course there are always exceptions, but if you plan on having fun, getting a college experience, growing as a person, enjoying your sport, getting a half-decent college education, talking to girls, or meeting cool people, I would take a hard pass on Ottawa University and go absolutely anywhere else.
