I have had horrible experiences with the administration and staff members at this school, where I attended for four years and received my B.A. in psychology and a minor in business.
One month before my graduation, I received a letter in the mail stating that I had not yet taken English 1A. I was stunned and confused, as I have had advisers and my English 1B professor telling me that I was exempt from that course during my freshmen year. The commencement ceremony came around, and although I walked on stage, which I had dreamed of for so many years, I was not very happy, knowing that I was not receiving a diploma and that I still had a class to take. Amazingly, during one of the speeches at the ceremony, one professor stated that dozens of students ran into the same problem.
After taking the English 1A class at a different university, which I earned an A+ in, I contacted the staff at San Jose State University with my transcript. It was then that they told me that I was still not ready to graduate. I was told one of my classes I took for my business minor was incorrect, which doesn’t make sense, because an adviser gave me his word that the class in question satisfies the university’s requirement for that section. A few conversations and trips to the university later, this problem was resolved.
However, it took another year before I received my diploma, due to what they called “printing errors.” In the end, I graduated in May of 2007, but didn’t receive my diploma until December of 2008, over a year and a half later (and after over a dozen phone conversations, 20 e-mails, and many visits to the university).
