One Student Review of St. Mary’s College of Maryland

The school is more trouble than it’s worth. The biggest problem is the administration. The Dean could not be bothered to care about the students. He has explicitly said that the school has more important priorities than its own students. He has also said disparaging things about the feminist group on campus and the Black Student Union.
Our president was under investigation, but there was never an independent review or any transparency about the entire thing. Accusations included mismanagement of funds, verbal abuse of staff, misuse of state vehicles, amoung other things.
Plus there were 3 different Title IX investigations going on while I was there.
The location is pretty, but far from perfect. The surrounding area is kinda racist. KKK flyers got distributed as the closest town, and there’s plenty of confederate flags flying nearby.
The support services are a joke. They just don’t exist.
The health services are drastically under funded. The wellness center makes do with what they have, but the dean refuses to further fund it.
The housing is awful honestly. The dorms have fried wiring, insect infestations, mold, pretty much anything you think can go wrong, probably already has.
There’s a good range of extracurriculars, but in my experience the clubs aren’t really motivated.
The curriculum is the major highlight. Good teachers, good programs, excellent teacher student ratios, and good connections for internships and stuff.
But honestly? Don’t bother with this school. It isn’t worth it.
