Worst community college ever!! I tried taking chemistry 100 and they told me I do not meet the pre-reqs. That’s a course there should be no pre-reqs for. Come on .. Its 100 level. Besides, I have a GED, A.A, and B.A. Degrees already. The totality of my previous education should qualify me for any entry level classes I need to take.
They also put me into a wait list loop. Could not register for classes early because I am are not currently a student. I was on a wait list for them all; a wait list I never got off of. The wait list never end!! No one who registers late gets on them ahead of everyone else.
Its a catch 22 really. Only students who are students can register early and you can’t get into classes unless you register early. So essentially, students who have been at the college for 2-3 years or whatever are fine, but new students are either kicked to the curb or wait listed.
Plus, disabled students are suppose to get priority registration. That, however, is only being given to already registered students as you need to be a student to qualify for services. So they essentially screw over the disabled students too.
Tacoma Community College is a great school with great staff. They are up to date with the latest software and technology and is great for the science and medical fields. However, the only drawback to TCC is that they are lagging behind when it comes to financial aid. They do not offer direct deposit and do not cash large FA checks. They do have banks near that will cash them for free but since they don’t issue checks until the last minute (sometimes not even until a week or two into the quarter)you are forced to cash your check at the bank because if you deposit into your own bank it wont be available until after classes have started. And for those of us who choose not to waste our money on overpriced books we can get online for a third of the price, we don’t have time to get what we need. I assume this is done purposely to drive sales at the bookstore. We should have a choice, direct deposit would cure much of this. They also will not, even if asked, provide a detailed list of how your financial aid and loans were applied to your tuition making it difficult to know if you even recieved everything you were supposed to. They hire students to work the FA window, they are rude, some dressed like slobs, and will never tell you the same thing twice because they don’t really make any effort to help, they just tell you whatever they have to to get you out of the window, even if it is completely wrong.
