Before I begin, let me first say that I am a delaware resident & have been so for my entire life. Also, UD was at the bottom of my college list.I am currently a design student and as such I feel that I am qualified to say this. To start off, UD is a lot of hype. The sports, the education & the fact that most everyone from delaware went to that college all play into this ultra hype persona. Yes, its a good school academically. However if you are an artsy, unique, free spirit type of person, you are not gonna like it. most of the people, the scenery, & the whole atmosphere are really pretty generic & boring. Most of my out of state friends like it because that is what they were looking for in a college ( minus the boring of course). But also keep in mind that my friends are from big cities in places like New York, Florida, & Washington. I needed something very different out of a college experience, so I plan on transferring after sophomore year to a better school in a bigger city. I am not saying that UD is a bad school all around, I’m jus saying that its just not the school for me.
Great school — great education. Also its in Newark, DE which is a great location, 1 hour from Baltimore/DC, 30 mins from Philly, 3 hours from NYC, 1.5 hours from the Beaches.
North of campus (walking distance) is all state park lands, great for walking mountain biking and fresh air breathing, also Main street has everything you could need for having a fun time +
Not to mention a kickass education with great profs and undergraduate research opportunities.
