  I’ve been attending Ashford University online for six months, now, and I have to say it’s nothing like a real school. With one exception, I have had a better grasp of grammar than every instructor, some instructors don’t fully read their correspondence (I’ve had inappropriate replies), and every text so far has been a poor rewrite published by the school-owned publisher (Bridgepoint Education). The rigid class format is inanely weighted toward class discussion boards where, rather than fluid discussion, each student is required to respond initially to a question, and no real integration of the material is facilitated. On a financial note, they charge a ‘technology access fee’ for the full four years at the beginning of your enrollment, unlike most online colleges which charge a smaller fee every term; this allows them to make their profit from everyone, and not just the small percentage of students that remain beyond their first term. If you’re looking to get a degree from home or while deployed, look elsewhere, because the folks at Ashford only care about making money with the least possible effort, and not your successful education.
