Humboldt State University (1913) offers students personal attention and mentoring from their professors in a small, residential community. It features a wide range of academic programs, with 44 majors and nationally recognized programs in natural resources and science. There are also exceptional hands-on learning opportunities. Students might do forest exploration, film shoots, wildlife studies, tribal research, archaeological digs, oceanography and more, and this make graduates particularly attractive to employers. The campus is located about five hours north of San Francisco, on California’s pristine redwood coast. It is known for a longstanding commitment to the environment, and there are many class offerings, research efforts and special projects related to sustainability. – Jarad Petroske, Communications Specialist

  • george says:

Looking for a good academic school, with a backwoods kind of feeling. Definately not for the valley or big city type. Best place to get away from Mom and Dad.
    Overall Score: (3.00/5.00)

  • DN says:

Great college-town experience – small enough for a good education but big enough to offer a variety of opportunities. Local town (Arcata) is small but quaint. Lots of outdoor activities including beach and hiking. Professors are genuine. A bit far from home if you’re from SF or LA, but you won’t be disappointed.
    Overall Score: (3.55/5.00)
