The idea behind Fresno Pacific University centers on community. A community of learners committed to a vision of Christian higher education. The university serves as a catalyst for inspiring leadership, service and commitment to fully equip students in whichever career path they choose.
Fresno Pacific University is a small, friendly, community-centered university. My overall experience as a student was positive. The campus is spacious and beautiful and the energy is vibrant. The school offers many programs and events to get involved in leadership, volunteer work, as well as various clubs and ministry opportunities. I was surrounded in a Christian environment where I was able to flourish academically and grow spiritually.
If you are intimidated by the price tag, don’t let that stop you. FPU offers many scholarship opportunities and even a work study program. Do your research and be sure to speak to a financial aid officer. Living on campus is a great way to meet new people, become more involved in school programs and activities, and most importantly, grow as an individual.
Fresno Pacific is a Christian liberal arts school, but not every student attending FPU is a Christian. I enjoyed learning about other faiths of students who attended FPU. If you are an open minded individual who thrives on a community centered environment and willing to help others, you will fit right in.
Because FPU is a small liberal arts college, it allows students to build solid, grounded relationships with not only other students, but with the faculty as well, and the ratio for professors to students is ideal for hands-on learning. You are not just a number at FPU; you have a name. I was impressed at the individualized attention and support I received from the staff and faculty. They went above and beyond to support me in my educational goals. As a history major, I was interested in completing an internship at an art museum. Despite the fact that FPU did not offer a museum studies program, they sought out a faculty member who did have expertise in this area and who also directed the archives department at Hiebert Library and they created two custom museum studies classes as well as help me get an internship at Fresno’s Metropolitan Museum. If that is not going above and beyond, I don’t know what is.
Through my classes at FPU, as well as my internships I got a glimpse of what working in the real world was like, which helped prepare me for what I face on a daily basis. My internships greatly enhanced my education at FPU. It gave me experience that relates to the degree I received from FPU, which helped tremendously to make me a strong candidate for any job. They also expand your knowledge of the importance of peacemaking & conflict studies, and you get to apply this classroom knowledge into practice.
The academic curriculum in my classes were rigorous, to say the least. If you decide to attend Fresno Pacific, much will be expected of you. But in the end it will worth it. I felt that I walked away with solid understanding of what it really means to be a leader; and a servant and how learning the skill of being a peacemaker comes in handy, no matter what career path you choose.
My time at FPU was a journey of learning, exploration, reflection and transformation. It pushed me to my limits, challenged me and prepared me for the real world. I believe that if I had not chosen Fresno Pacific, and decided to attend a public university, I wouldn’t be as strong as I am today. My learning was nurtured through many different experiences and in through the support of a tight-knit community. The memories will stay with me throughout my life.
