everything said in the previous reviews is true. except for jarn; salisbury casts less and has a better science and geography department. but it gets worse. the school has recently enacted a policy that states “any off campus incident is taken to the judicial board. regardless of innocence of crime. we presume you are guilty until proven innocent beyond 90%.” jesse ketterman (dean of students) this is simply a scam allowing them to suspend students, taking their credits then allowing them to come back the next semester and finish. this means all the credits the students payed for are lost. this means the college and administrators involved are nothing but scammers and felons. because of this several students this semester have been suspended wrongfully for crimes they never committed. i was a advisor to a student during such a case and once i saw how corrupt and evil they were i immediately left campus.
This school is horrible, they let anyone in. The students are very afraid, there are beatings, muggings, attacks, and rapes all the time here and nothing is ever done about it. Two students were shot last year and one died and the student who did it got 5 years in jail up for parole in like 18 months. The day the verdit came out a whole bunch of students said they were going to get guns and shoot some people cause they could get away with it. The cops are horrible they let a guy die of a heart attack last year cause they dont know ho to do CPR. The classes are a joke, the President is horrible. He tries to force people to be vegetarians and love the environment, but only like 50 people here care about that s**t.
The above review is a completely biased view of a great college in western Maryland. Frostburg offers a wide array of courses and opportunities for students of all levels. The geography department is top notch with an amazing faculty to boot. If you are considering any field of geography or science related major, I strongly suggest Frostburg University as a lower cost option for a great education.
OK. So here’s the scoop on this school. First they will accept anyone, they want to increase their funds, so more students means for funding. The problem is that in almost every 100 level and 200 level course is full of students that really shouldn’t be in college at all. But majority rules, therefore the curriculum is geared towards the slower learning, less educated individual. The smart people at this school are there because they are lazy, didn’t pull off great grades in High School, so they applied to colleges and took what they were offered. SO you have two types of students: Smart students that don’t follow through and don’t take college seriously, and borderline retards that act like they are in some ivy league college but can’t excel at all. It is frustrating to sit in classes with lower class individuals and to relearn subjects that were first introduced in grade school. Most of the intelligent students are discouraged. They are held back due to the large number of “slow” students. It is very frustrating to go to a school and not learn. BUT HERE’S THE ICEING ON THE CAKE. The teachers take attendance and if you miss 3-5 classes, its automatic failure. The force you to come to class where other universities just expect you to turn in your essays and show up for final. That won’t fly at Frostburg. So taking the self teaching route is not an option. They force you to commit to a world of slow learners and for individuals that want more, this is not the school that will get you a higher education. They need you to be there everyday to listen to the other morons struggle. They might need your help, so you better show up or you’ll be penalized. Yep, that’s right, you have the highest GPA in the class, but missing those days during the semester just cost you two letter grades. SO your hard work and intellegence that would have earned you an ‘A’ at another University turns into a ‘C’, and what-do-you-know, now some idiot has the highest GPA for the class, not you. Its all a big scheme to gain more funds. They know that half the students don’t belong in college, but they make it work for them. Its a numbers game, they aren’t looking out for the indivual. They need the crutch of smart students to even out the majority of poorly educated students. Most intelligent people drop out. There’s no encouragement to learn, just encouragement to be patient for the other students that are “still trying to get it”. Bottom-line, this college if for people that are too stupid to get into a decent school. There are too many students that are missing out on college education because Frostburg will let in anyone. It is very discouraging to sit in a classroom of people that are not really suppose to be there, but yet they are the priority.
