Con: Not for everyone. Should you sway from establishment’s mission statement, they will not go out of their way to help or console you. You must remember that this is a business that needs money to run. If you decide to not live the Independent Fundamental Baptist Christian lifestyle, you are politely shunned and ignored by your former colleague. Staff and church members may be advised by higher up to not make contact with you depending on your level of backslide. If you are a GSBC alumni not active in the ministry, you are not invited back to be recognized for your present achievements. Though some of us have obtained a more recognized degree after bible college & contributed to society on a secular level making higher wages. But you are contacted and asked to make contributions to support other Alumnus in their ministry although you wont be recognized for it.
Personal view: Unless you’re completely submerged in the kool-aid of fundamentalism, you will waste your time. At the end of your term there, you will at least played a role in keeping the staff employed and perpetuate their cause while you struggle with low wage and unstable jobs due to your inadequate education. Those who significantly contribute financially have the power to influence the leaders. Men are believed to be the “protector and spiritual leaders” for women due to the fallen nature of Eve. The pastor is viewed as having divine knowledge & counsel. It is common for women to see him as their spiritual father thinking that father knows best. It is a common practice amongst fundamentalism that the pastor gains the trust of females for by doing so, you influence the men. Because of that, some married men are at a disadvantage for their wife obeys the Man of God. Also, don’t be naïve thinking that church/Bible College has never played a role in a sex scandal cover-up involving minors (those have been swept under the rug of statute of limitation–nepotism is understood and not spoken). Be prepared to be governed by arbitrary decisions/rules made by the pastor (ie. being divorced and still on staff–which is fine but that one guy is a big a$$hole). You will unwittingly help facilitate a cloak and dagger environment which will come in the form of a “confidentiality agreement”. At the end, we are all human beings who will protect our assets at almost any cost as they will too.
Stimulating Course: Comes in the form of loud preaching in most classes taught by males.
Quality of Professors: The only professors I remembered who has had any accredited degree was a mathematician from Princeton University and a chemical engineer from the University of New Hampshire. Employed sometime before 2003.
Networking & Job Opps: Plenty of that if you can get a recommendation from the head honcho.
Area around Campus: Adequate unless you’re a girl without a car then you are to travel the area with 3 other girls (a rule in 2000, yeah, it will suck for you).
Affordability: Hardly affordable. Though you will be motivated to hold down a full time job and full time courses to chase after an ideal. It can be done. Your health will deteriorate between ministry, full time work and full time school. You will be a walking zombie faking soul winning and Bible studies, & quiet times with God trying to show off to impress some people. Your grades will suffer but keep your eye on the prize–you may find God’s choice of life partner.
Hotness Factor:
Church/college secretary: a true BBW. If you’re a masochist male, she will crush your spirit and other parts. Has this passive aggressiveness to her whilst holding a smile to your face.
Former VP: Awesome hair & voice. Guys envy his mane. Not there anymore…something about being made to move overnight and quit his job.
Music guy: quite seducing with his soft charms. Ladies, you’re not his type so don’t even try. Not there anymore…same thing like the former VP… something about being forced to quit and exiled to the desert overnight.
The Dwight Schrute: kiss a$$ to the head honcho. Also known for his Oedipus complex–if you’re into that sort of thing.
The Head Honcho: Your Daddy complex who knows better than the man you’re married to. In fact, he’s your daddy’s daddy. You’ll throw away your whole life for this guy. He is that good.
Minus one star for not serving real wine during the partaking of the sacraments.
Even if the “school” was interested in obtaining accreditation, there is absolutely no way they could earn it. The best they could earn, (if they put forth the effort to bring their resources up to date,) is accredited certificate studies in office management and GED training.
