One student review of Minneapolis Business College

  • Sarah says:

When I went to Minneapolis Business College for information, they prided themselves for their job placement program, and their real-life course material. Sounded good to me! After already having a 4-year degree, the short program was appealing as well. I decided to enroll in their graphic design program.

The first week ended up being classes based on the school’s rules and dress code. After all, they wanted the students to look professional since that’s what we were all striving for – a professional career that was related to our course of study. I was a little turned off by this. I consider myself an adult, so I don’t think it was necessary to go to such depths with this miniscule stuff. But I decided to stick with it.

During the weeks and months to follow, I quickly realized that this school is a complete and utter joke. The teachers dummy down subject matter because they want the students to succeed. However, this is encouraging mediocrity, and therefore, students are forced to accept jobs at places like Office Max upon completion of the program. I’m not saying there’s no worth in working at a place like that. What I am saying is that if a school promises career placement, then they should live up to that promise with better career options.

Throughout the course of my time at Minneapolis Business College, I maintained a 4.0. Now, you would think that would be beneficial when it came to find a job. Nope! The placement department was no help at all. I was in line for the same jobs as students who were produced mediocre work their entire time at this school. It’s been 3 years since I went to this school, and I have yet to find a graphic design job. Sure, I’ve gone back to the school – asking for their assistance in helping me find a career. All that happened was a long story about how the job market is down, and how I should resend them my resume and some other paperwork. Nothing. Wouldn’t you think that if a school advertises their high job placement credentials, they would work hard for their paying students in the midst of a downward economy?
