10 Student Reviews of Virginia Marti College of Art and Design

  • This is the biggest mistake I’ve ever made and the staff counts on non graduate rates. I want my money back since the credits I paid nearly $20,000.00 to “earn” over a year and a half are worth nothing to me or any job or decent school, for that matter. What they’re doing must be illegal!

    Overall Score: (1.45/5.00)
  • The reason their placement rate is so high is that working retail counts as being a “job in your field” if you are in one of the fashion programs. Unsurprisingly this school is run by rabid Trump fans, it’s almost as much an overpriced scam as his “university”. You cannot transfer credits from VMCAD to any real school, so if you don’t get what you need from their paltry offerings, you can’t build on it anywhere else. In the end it’s way too much money for what you actually get. If you have talent, you can get in elsewhere. If not, they will not be able to teach you anything.

  • Awful. Nothing transfers to other schools as they are not accredited.

  • I graduated with an Associates degree in Applied Science of Digital Media. Just 3 months after graduating, the Digital Media program was withdrawn from the school, essentially loosing all credibility of my degree. I now work long hours doing construction (no education required) I could’ve saved myself the 40k of debt but I really do have passion editing video and photography. I could write an essay on why you should not spend your money here, but I’ve wasted enough time on this school. I just wouldn’t recommend VMCAD to anyone due to the lack of job placement and high cost. I understand that this school’s main focus is fashion design, but you might be better off investing YOUR money into YOURSELF and not this half-ass school (which is basically a 1,400 sq ft building…) Best of luck to anyone reading this, and I truly hope that you choose a different route.

To be fair, I did meet some nice people, and I would find it hard to bash the staff that will probably be reading this.. Some really nice professors, and administrative staff, but 40k for a 2 year degree.. Just not a good way to start a young persons life. Again, best of luck.

  • I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE anyone looking into this school! $30,000 – $40,000 is entirely too much to pay for two years at this school! Not to mention you won’t be able to transfer and build off of this education. They tried to argue the fact that they don’t transfer to many schools, by sending me a transfer list of, almost exclusively, art academies (a list of less than20) scattered over three surrounding states. So these programs are very challenging. It’s not worth the effort even if you make it all the way through your training without finding a serious flaw in your desired program. They make it sound too good to be true, and it looks like the general concensus is that it is. Kent state offers and is ranked highly in all of the programs offered at VMCAD. Save yourself the time and money and give yourself the option to persue your craft nationally.

  • I have been to other colleges like most of the VMCAD population and I can honestly say that i have never been as challenged. In a good way! If you are NOT motivated and really passionate about what you’re learning, then VMCAD isn’t for you. If you are, there is not other college in the area that is better. I’m a Graphic Design grad and they helped me get in to a job before I was even finished. The internships were awesome as well. Those who bash the job placement…well, all i have to say is you have to work for it and can’t expect anyone to hand a job over to you. I’ve researched colleges and VMC had the best placement record of any state school. The price is more than a comm. college but far less then any other private school in the area. I’m still paying back my student loans but without the help of their placement staff and my own hard work interviewing, I wouldn’t have been able to. Thanks to every one at VMCAD. Keep up the good work!

    Overall Score: (4.18/5.00)
  • I have to agree with all of the other reviews..I graduated in 2004. I received no assistance in job placement and ended up moving out of state to do something that had nothing to do with my major and ended up thirty grand in the whole! P.S. when I decided to go back to school for my bachelors I found out that no one out of state takes their credits therefore I would virtually have to start over and…my undergrad loans have been exhausted!

    Overall Score: (2/5.00)
  • Staff is awesome but now I am stuck with an associates degree, without a job in my field, had to wait almost a year to graduate even though I was done with my classes (they only do one graduation a year), and over $30,000 in debt! That’s ridiculous for an associates degree. I regret going here and wish I would have went to a more well known university.

    Overall Score: (2.27/5.00)
  • I DO NOT RECOMMEND this school whatsoever. Especially if you don’t have any drawing skills. EVERYONE is required to take classes where professors expect you to be Pablo Picasso at everything you draw…even if you are going for Digital Media or Graphics Design. And there is ABSOLUTELY no A for effort. Please don’t waste you money.

    Overall Score: (2/5.00)
  • Although the professors and staff are both knowledgeable and just generally nice people, I DO NOT recommend this school. The class size is small, and they claim to have great job placement, it’s a young and edgy environment and seems to offer a great alternative to a traditional four year university. But don’t waste your time. Go to a better known school and get a bachelor’s degree, because the associate’s degree you get here won’t do you much good in the real world.

The school boasts a 92% job placement rate on their website, but this was for 2004-2008. I graduated two years ago and STILL do not have a job in my field. Their job placement program is a joke, and consists of advisors forwarding you job listings off of Craigslist, Monster, Indeed and the like. Half the time these jobs aren’t even something I would apply for – I went to school for Graphic Design and have received countless emails about jobs in fashion merchandising or design.

The curriculum is good however, my only major complaint about it is there is no where near enough of a focus on web design. But it is not worth the time or money when all you’re getting is an Associate’s Degree.
