One Student Review of Alfa College

  • I started studying at Alfa College 3 years ago doing MBO 4. When I started, everything was so new and different for me. However I felt so welcomed since the first day of school. All the lectures were friendly and understanding. The college is situated in the middle of Groningen city in the Netherlands. Groningen city is known for its number of students living there, hence the name “student city”. There are about 150,000 students living and studying in Groningen. There are all kind of activities for students to do and the night live here is amazing. I however do not live in Groningen, I live in a village called Onderdendam. Everyday I travel to school with the bus and its a breeze. I just take a bus and switch to a second bus and I am already there. The journey takes about 40 minutes. The thing I love about Alfa college is that I do not feel like I’m attending a “serious” school,it is actually very relaxing but at the same time the are very focussed on studies. I am in a class of about 10 students and this semester I am taking 6 subjects. I am not loaded with a lot of assignments or homework. I go to school focus in class and do all my projects during the lessons. I start lessons around 9am and finish by 3pm. On Mondays I have a day of. About 1 year ago I had a terrible football injury and had to stay out of school for 6 months due to recovery. The school was absolutely supportive and understanding. They constantly kept contact with me to keep track of my health condition and even scheduled me in the next semester. I had no troubles of whatsoever with the lessons as the Dean of the department extended 1 semester for me. I got to join a new class and continue my lessons where I left of. The examination week is also a breeze. The lectures give time and notes to the class to study and we get holidays in between examinations. The teachers are nice in general, but we all have more difficulties with teachers then another person would or visa versa..

The only thing I would consider below average is the campus right now. It’s old and outdated, the PC’s in school are old and slow, but they are going to a new building within 1 years time, since they know this themselves as well. They maintain the campus pretty well, have security guards around in case of any trouble, and provide enough smoking areas should you need this.

I would recommend anyone to go the Alfa College, as it is in my opinion the best quality MBO you can find in the Groningen area

    Regards,
    Simon Gramsbergen
