Fountainhead College of Technology is a fast-track school that prepares graduates for some of the fastest growing fields in information technology, network security, wireless technology and electronics, programming and healthcare. Fountainhead College is designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This prestigious designation recognizes Fountainhead’s Network Security & Forensics bachelor’s degree program as one of the best in the nation, and the only cybersecurity bachelor’s degree in East Tennessee that offers all six national certifications offered by the CAEIAE. – Richard Rackley, CEO
One thing that I find many people rate college and tech schools on is if they got a job as a result of the classes. This is a complete misunderstanding of how things work. No college, from Ivy League to Tech School can or will guarantee you employment somewhere. You have to be willing to put forth the effort to secure a job. FCT did help with leads and I left my graduation ceremony and went straight to my last interview with a job I held for 10 years working for HGTV and Foodnetwork. I got that job because of the hard work I did in school and by reaching out in advance, knowing the company I was applying for, working on a great resume that differentiated me from other candidates, etc so that I could get the job. The short version is, if you want the job be willing to put in the effort to get the job. School is only a part of it.
Fountainhead College is one I would recommend to anyone.
The same people giving bad reviews are the same people that always point the finger at someone else. You don’t need an education, you need to look in the mirror.
It’s a fact that the curriculum is based wholly on certification courses created to help students succeed in the professional world. If you excel in these courses, you are just as qualified as any engineer in the market.
I attended FCT’s IT and Network Security program, and now have a high level government position locally. The instructors are knowledgeable in their field and they want you to succeed if you are willing to put everything you have into it.
It’s not fair to post complaints because you didn’t put your all into your education and life after graduation. After all, they even teach you how to interview and write resumes! If you take every good opportunity that is relevant to your education, you can’t go wrong.
I cannot confirm or deny that Fountainhead “threatened” Collegetimes but I did see a Twitter post from them calling Sandie Hancock a “legal-threat extraordinaire” because she requested Collegetimes to remove a couple reviews that do nothing but make slanderous statements about certain people’s jobs or false information.
The school as a whole is overpriced for the education provided. WGU and Univ of Phoenix provides the same education for a fraction of the cost. The instructors read the book to you, rather than attempt teaching anything. Almost all staff is related to the Rackley’s (President), which means complaints fall on deaf ears.
The job placement record provided at enrollment is very high. What is not stated is that job placement counts McDonalds, Sears, K-Mart, or any other minimum wage job regardless if in the IT field or not. The career fairs are mostly visited by non-tech jobs. Several companies I have interviewed with specifically stated they would not hire a FCT student due to the lack of knowledge most students have AFTER their degree.
The NSF program is highly pushed on students without regard to student age. This presents a problem for the over 40 crowd that think they will work for the FBI or CIA, as the school brainwashes them to believe.
Overall, I have began classes at another college and have no regrets of leaving FCT. My only regret is that I have spent so much money at a school that cares so little of it’s students.
This is my life because I am in debt form Fountainhead:
I, my wife and two young children live in a very small one bedroom apartment. I work nights for min wage(the only job I could find), my wife works as a teacher during the day, she cleans houses on the weekends. Often times we can’t afford to run the AC or heat, we can’t afford day care, which is why I have to work nights. Between the two of us we have an old beat up car, which is in need of constant repair. Though I live in the same house, I hardly see my children or wife as we are always working.
Before Fontainhead we had a nice two bed room apartment, food on the table without the governments assistance. AC/heating, some savings and even a little extra money now here and there. Now, we owe so much to the school that we can’t afford anything. The school never followed up on it’s promise to “find a job” for me, I realized that I’ve learned very little comparatively. The worse part of it all is that I can’t even try and go back to community collage because I have so much debt that I can’t get any more loans. We’ve worked ourselves into a hole, I have to work to provide what little we do have but need to be earning more… however, I have no time to gain the skills I need to do so.
Before the school I, nor my wife, had any debt, we had “good” credit and a good life. Money isn’t everything but without it life is rough.
DON’T MAKE MY MISTAKE OVOID THIS SCHOOL!

Anon from March 15,2012, and I quote, ” If you are writing a review and your spelling is all wrong then I bet your resume wont look any better!”, how about you go back and check your seemingly commercial written paragraph with all of it’s typographical errors.”There is no housing but who cares if your looking for that then go to UTK or somewhere else.” (where’s the comma?) “The building is old what do you expect, it has been around for a very long time and they are trying to update it slowly FOR THE STUDENTS.” (where’s the comma after old?)”Why would they give us a bigger cleaner looking breakroom if it was for them?” (where is the comma after bigger?)”DUH”(are you even old enough for college using this phrase??)”Also for job placement don’t just expect them to get you a high paying job.” (comma after placement?) Gee,I guess you need to think before you speak.
The student teacher ratio is great! The classes are small and IF you happen to get an instructor like Lisa Speer you will actually work your butt off and learn something. Unfortunately, this school seems to care more about what looks good on paper than whether or not a “teacher” can actually teach.
One of my instructors couldnt answer even the simplest of questions about her field and they made her department head!
The staff cannot be trusted. When we had a problem with our instructor we got NO help. They are not there for the students. They are there for themselves. Beware financial aid! Some of the people in this office will lie to your face and not even blink.
Networking and job opps are a total joke. I asked for help and the person in charge sent me a PHOTO of a copy of a list of potential parttime positions that “may or may not be in my field” POSTED IN THE LOUNGE!
Im pretty much twenty grand in debt for a degree from a college that no one takes seriously. I wouldnt recommened this school to anyone.
is save some money and go to pellissippi or walter state.
job placement is a joke ,they will get you a job but dont expect to make over $10/hour for at least 5 years(graduated with 3.8gpa)
if you want to make a good income pick a degree that this school does not offer.
the school is not accredited anymore, your clases will not transfer to anywhere.
but dont take my word for it,go see for yourself.
When speaking with representatives of the school you’ll hear only the best case scenarios… which I’m not entirely certain are even true. They tell you what you want to hear like that they have a 90% success rate with placing graduates with jobs They fail to tell you how many students they remove from a course before they can graduate.
Speaking of being removed from a school…. they don’t explain this to you ether. Apparently they can “drop” you from a class (without warning) whenever they feel that you aren’t meeting their standers. In other words if you don’t make a good mark on one test or miss one class they can kick you out and keep your money.
The teachers are pathetic. They are ether ridiculously stupid or the most inconsiderate people you’ll ever meet. They simply don’t answer any questions you have nor do they bother to clarify what assignments are do and when. Leading back to them recommending you being removed from the school because, yes, your asking to many questions.
Speaking of questions. The cost for one semester is around $5,000 (depending on what you study) but they don’t pay the $50 for you certification test. This seems strange as we know the money isn’t being spent on the school’s or their equipment as you have to pay extra fees to use their lab (which consists of about four old bulky computers).
They simple have no people skills. The receptionists as well as the representatives are wonderful. They smile and joke and can promote the school without your asking. Yet, the head of the school, Mr. Rogers is a complete (excuse my language but there’s really no other word to describe him) dick. Really what irony that a man with the name of Mr.Rogers could have the personality of a vegan zombie. He’s pretty much just a bully.
Over all the school looks to a pretty good deal. They teach what you need to know quickly then set you up with a job all for just thousands of dollars (and maybe your sole) asking nothing in return. Unfortunately it seems that school is nothing more then a swindle, hiding behind cleaver legal loop holes and depending on the gullibility of the bright eyed high school graduate with big dreams or the desperate family man, living off food stamps and minim wage searching for a quick solution.
Ether way you look at it the schools a scam, save yourself the trouble and just pick a different school.
(Future students beware not a credited School)
The owner thinks he is a JEDI from STAR WARS the owners wife dresses in skimpy little outfits (SHE IS THE VICE PRESIDENT HAHA) and all of the teachers are not qualified TO TEACH ANYTHING……GO TO A SCHOOL THAT HAS TEACHERS WITH TEACHING DEGREES………………………..
Cost me $25,000 and I never even got a job.
Poor teachers and staff I was very unhappy with my decision to attend this so called coolege…..
The reason why I completed the programs is due to the I could not transfer credits to another school. This is because of there joke accreditation through ACCSCT. FCT makes a big deal about national accreditation but regional is what matters (ITT is getting theirs but FCT won’t do it). If I had to do it all over again I would have went to a regionally accredited school. If you do start attending here your stuck.
To meet the requirements to grant a Bachelor’s degree for several programs the school actually granted the degrees to the instructors. Many of the instructors did not do the work or turned in shortened versions of the assignments.
The curriculum looks impressive on paper but not in practice. During the Associates program students spent more time playing games than actually learning. The teachers did the same and barely taught. If the teachers did teach they read straight from the book. All tests were open book and open notes multiple choice. I took courses at another college 5 years before this one and learned more in those two courses than the entire program here.
The Bachelors in Network Security was good as far as the courses book work is concerned, the hands on work was awful. The teacher for this program did try but still the courses were not challenging at all.
Since I graduated I’ve been to several seminars and watched several online courses and FCT didn’t even come close to teaching at a college level. I would definitely say a student who attends this school will not be prepared for a career in IT or Network Security. CHOOSE ANOTHER SCHOOL.
Oh, the school pushes the fact they have a career placement center. All the person does is look at the paper and what is online and sends the ads out to students. As far as contacting places and actively trying to promote students, it just doesn’t happen. Many of the students who I went to school with almost 2 years ago have still not found jobs in the field. DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL.
