  • Im close to being a straight A student but this choice has been a mistake. There are no morals or ethics. You just have to put your big boy pants on and make things happen for yourself. They give you the tools, you just have to be proactive and use those tools. I landed a job before I even graduated that was a plus. The only person that truly seems to care is Teresa, but im not expecting anyone to care because they are not effected whether you do bad or good, they still get paid and thats the bottom line. Professors talk about not speaking on politics in class, still talk about it and how they support certain candidates which further shows me the mindset this institution really has. Besides me getting the job that I put the effort in to apply for, I wish I could turn back the hands of time and go somewhere else, oh but then you may run into accreditation problems. FCT has the market cornered, maybe Tennessee Tech would have been a better option

  • I attended FCT in 2003 I think and graduated with an Associate of Occupational Science in Information Technology degree. I found the classwork challenging and the teachers knowledgeable in the subjects they were teaching. I also found the staff extremely helpful. When I had to take programming as part of the studies, which I wasn’t very good at, the teacher took time out to meet with me for an hour before class to help me understand it better. I was able to get an A in the class primarily because of that help. There were other similar instances of staff reaching out to assist me to help me succeed.
One thing that I find many people rate college and tech schools on is if they got a job as a result of the classes. This is a complete misunderstanding of how things work. No college, from Ivy League to Tech School can or will guarantee you employment somewhere. You have to be willing to put forth the effort to secure a job. FCT did help with leads and I left my graduation ceremony and went straight to my last interview with a job I held for 10 years working for HGTV and Foodnetwork. I got that job because of the hard work I did in school and by reaching out in advance, knowing the company I was applying for, working on a great resume that differentiated me from other candidates, etc so that I could get the job. The short version is, if you want the job be willing to put in the effort to get the job. School is only a part of it.
Fountainhead College is one I would recommend to anyone.

  • I graduated in 2008 from the Network Security program. I can’t speak for the last 8 years but the teachers were great and the curriculum, especially when you compare to any other school around Tennessee, was extremely relevant and valuable.

The same people giving bad reviews are the same people that always point the finger at someone else. You don’t need an education, you need to look in the mirror.

  • Before you let the other comments influence your decision, it’s important to first understand the facts. It’s a fact that you get out of it what you put into it. If you expect to walk through the door and have someone hand you a job during school or after graduation, you are dead wrong. You have to work very hard to get the dream job. The same goes for all of the other non-major schools (Phoenix, GWU, etc).

It’s a fact that the curriculum is based wholly on certification courses created to help students succeed in the professional world. If you excel in these courses, you are just as qualified as any engineer in the market.

I attended FCT’s IT and Network Security program, and now have a high level government position locally. The instructors are knowledgeable in their field and they want you to succeed if you are willing to put everything you have into it.

It’s not fair to post complaints because you didn’t put your all into your education and life after graduation. After all, they even teach you how to interview and write resumes! If you take every good opportunity that is relevant to your education, you can’t go wrong.

  • This was a complete waste of time and money and instructors do not take the time to set up labs correctly or even complete it themselves. Homework assignments do not make any sense at all and they just follow someone else curriculum instead of making it themselves. Sat in class bored for hours and if you don’t know a lick about computers, you would do horrible here! Fake it til you make it type of school. Teachers are always getting fired left and right and faculty sucks there. It should just burn to the ground.

  • Collegetimes will probably delete this post and I will keep reposting it. This school is in fact nationally accredited. Everyone should disregard college times statement about Fountainhead’s accreditation. After I attended Fountainhead, I worked with the career services department to get possible job opportunities. Hunting for jobs took some time and effort on my end but I was able to get a nice job in my field. Everything Collegetimes does here negatively impacts the current students at Fountainhead, the graduates value of their educations(mine included), and the employees families and livelihood.
I cannot confirm or deny that Fountainhead “threatened” Collegetimes but I did see a Twitter post from them calling Sandie Hancock a “legal-threat extraordinaire” because she requested Collegetimes to remove a couple reviews that do nothing but make slanderous statements about certain people’s jobs or false information.

    Overall Score: (3.63/5.00)
  • I completed my AS in Programming and decided to take a two year break, due to restructuring at the school. Returned for my BA and did not make it to the first break. The Gen Ed teachers, particulary Hancock and Carmack, have no business teaching students. They are both more interested in insulting students and attempting to catch students cheating than they are with the students education. In the three months I attended, four students had dropped because of these two teachers. Two years ago, this same problem was occuring with the Dir of Education, Ron Sears. After losing a countless number of students over his ineptness, he was finally terminated. Unfortunately, it seems FCT did not learn it’s lesson from the previous debacle and is doomed to repeat their mistake again.
The school as a whole is overpriced for the education provided. WGU and Univ of Phoenix provides the same education for a fraction of the cost. The instructors read the book to you, rather than attempt teaching anything. Almost all staff is related to the Rackley’s (President), which means complaints fall on deaf ears.
The job placement record provided at enrollment is very high. What is not stated is that job placement counts McDonalds, Sears, K-Mart, or any other minimum wage job regardless if in the IT field or not. The career fairs are mostly visited by non-tech jobs. Several companies I have interviewed with specifically stated they would not hire a FCT student due to the lack of knowledge most students have AFTER their degree.
The NSF program is highly pushed on students without regard to student age. This presents a problem for the over 40 crowd that think they will work for the FBI or CIA, as the school brainwashes them to believe.
Overall, I have began classes at another college and have no regrets of leaving FCT. My only regret is that I have spent so much money at a school that cares so little of it’s students.

  • I graduated from here in 2011 with my A.A.S. in Radiation Protection Technology. I, as well as my classmates were promised jobs in Oak Ridge, sunshine, rainbows, etc. Well, we all ended up leaving our families for jobs outside of TN. You can’t transfer anywhere except back to FCT because it’s nationally accredited. Roane State offers the same degree with IH classes as well as Rad Con, and it’s regionally accredited. In fact when this was brought to the attention to the former director of education, he simply shrugged it off. They have since done away with this program because they couldn’t place anyone in Oak Ridge and because Roane/Chattanooga State offer the same degree. School is JOKE.

  • THIS SCHOOL IS A SCAM! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME WITH THEM!

This is my life because I am in debt form Fountainhead:

I, my wife and two young children live in a very small one bedroom apartment. I work nights for min wage(the only job I could find), my wife works as a teacher during the day, she cleans houses on the weekends. Often times we can’t afford to run the AC or heat, we can’t afford day care, which is why I have to work nights. Between the two of us we have an old beat up car, which is in need of constant repair. Though I live in the same house, I hardly see my children or wife as we are always working.

Before Fontainhead we had a nice two bed room apartment, food on the table without the governments assistance. AC/heating, some savings and even a little extra money now here and there. Now, we owe so much to the school that we can’t afford anything. The school never followed up on it’s promise to “find a job” for me, I realized that I’ve learned very little comparatively. The worse part of it all is that I can’t even try and go back to community collage because I have so much debt that I can’t get any more loans. We’ve worked ourselves into a hole, I have to work to provide what little we do have but need to be earning more… however, I have no time to gain the skills I need to do so.

Before the school I, nor my wife, had any debt, we had “good” credit and a good life. Money isn’t everything but without it life is rough.

DON’T MAKE MY MISTAKE OVOID THIS SCHOOL!

I am almost in my third semester, and have already learned more in 8 months than I would have in years of not going here. FCT is a great school, with great teachers, and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. To everyone else, just because you were not smart enough to make it, or had a problem with a person or two doesn’t mean you need to take it out on a whole school. Get your act together, and actually learn something.

  • FCT is a joke! They run their school as if they are recruiting military personnel. If you are wanting to talk with someone who actually cares about your future, this is NOT the college to go to. While some instructors give everything they have to see you succeed, the rest only care about a paycheck. As far as the staff, they are so consumed with reaching their enrollment numbers, promises of gold toilets and unicorns flying over rainbows are given just so they can meet their deadlines. The owners are self absorbed, money hungry individuals who could care less if their students succeed after graduation. It is an overpriced institution with a staff that is so self absorbed, you will be made to feel as if you are just another student with a number on your back. Horrible experience all the way around…

Anon from March 15,2012, and I quote, ” If you are writing a review and your spelling is all wrong then I bet your resume wont look any better!”, how about you go back and check your seemingly commercial written paragraph with all of it’s typographical errors.”There is no housing but who cares if your looking for that then go to UTK or somewhere else.” (where’s the comma?) “The building is old what do you expect, it has been around for a very long time and they are trying to update it slowly FOR THE STUDENTS.” (where’s the comma after old?)”Why would they give us a bigger cleaner looking breakroom if it was for them?” (where is the comma after bigger?)”DUH”(are you even old enough for college using this phrase??)”Also for job placement don’t just expect them to get you a high paying job.” (comma after placement?) Gee,I guess you need to think before you speak.

  • I would just like to say that I have enjoyed my Associates and Bachelors degree at Fountainhead College of Technology. Granted one of my classes we lost an instructor but they got a great replacement teacher to try to salvage the class. There is no housing but who cares if your looking for that then go to UTK or somewhere else. The staff will always work with you as long as you are willing to do some work yourself. The building is old what do you expect, it has been around for a very long time and they are trying to update it slowly FOR THE STUDENTS. Why would they give us a bigger cleaner looking breakroom if it was for them? DUH because its for the students! Shannon J is one of the many students that probably just expects a handout and a job to fall in their lap. Also the medical class needs to just start bringing in jackets or something! Also for job placement don’t just expect them to get you a high paying job. Look for jobs yourself don’t just rely on career services to get you somewhere. Everyone else above should also take note and learn to spell a little bit better. If you are writing a review and your spelling is all wrong then I bet your resume wont look any better! I would recommend this school to anyone! Any future potential students who read these reviews should still give Fountainhead College a chance

  • Okay, seriously? Hotness factor? ZERO. There is no housing situation and the campus is a rundown elememntary school that they are fixing up little by little by scamming students out of their overage checks. The building is very old and the rooms dont have their own AC controls so while you are wearing flannels under your jeans and gloves in summer the class next door is perfectly comfortable. If you are in any of the medical classes they are gonna let you freeze because the computers in the other classes have to be kept cool.

The student teacher ratio is great! The classes are small and IF you happen to get an instructor like Lisa Speer you will actually work your butt off and learn something. Unfortunately, this school seems to care more about what looks good on paper than whether or not a “teacher” can actually teach.

One of my instructors couldnt answer even the simplest of questions about her field and they made her department head!

The staff cannot be trusted. When we had a problem with our instructor we got NO help. They are not there for the students. They are there for themselves. Beware financial aid! Some of the people in this office will lie to your face and not even blink.

Networking and job opps are a total joke. I asked for help and the person in charge sent me a PHOTO of a copy of a list of potential parttime positions that “may or may not be in my field” POSTED IN THE LOUNGE!

Im pretty much twenty grand in debt for a degree from a college that no one takes seriously. I wouldnt recommened this school to anyone.

  • My son has a disability and was 17 years old when he started at fountainhead. we talked to the recruiter and explained his disability on his application. She told us their would be no problems and they would notify us if he had any problems. They lied. After two months thinking everything was fine they pulled him in the office and told him he had submitted no class work taken no tests and it was obvious he did not want to be there. I went to the office and they brought in his instructor who informed me had just looked at his application on his own and found out he had autism. I asked how they could just let him sit for two months when he had near perfect attendance. And they said they thought he did not want to be there. He saved most of his work on flashdrive and we printed it and submitted it. He was doing the work and doing it well. They said he could make up the work they did not have. After the semester the new director of education Mr. Sears said he was going by the book it is not their problem he will recieve failing grades and have to pay to take the classes over. This is after the school recieved his tuition money from the state office of disability services. Total scam need to have legal action taken against them.

  • This school is a complete rip off! For some reason they are marked with an A+ with the BBB (I’ve mad a claim). I’d say this is because they take advantage of naive people who don’t know what to do when faced with crooks.

When speaking with representatives of the school you’ll hear only the best case scenarios… which I’m not entirely certain are even true. They tell you what you want to hear like that they have a 90% success rate with placing graduates with jobs They fail to tell you how many students they remove from a course before they can graduate.

Speaking of being removed from a school…. they don’t explain this to you ether. Apparently they can “drop” you from a class (without warning) whenever they feel that you aren’t meeting their standers. In other words if you don’t make a good mark on one test or miss one class they can kick you out and keep your money.

The teachers are pathetic. They are ether ridiculously stupid or the most inconsiderate people you’ll ever meet. They simply don’t answer any questions you have nor do they bother to clarify what assignments are do and when. Leading back to them recommending you being removed from the school because, yes, your asking to many questions.

Speaking of questions. The cost for one semester is around $5,000 (depending on what you study) but they don’t pay the $50 for you certification test. This seems strange as we know the money isn’t being spent on the school’s or their equipment as you have to pay extra fees to use their lab (which consists of about four old bulky computers).

They simple have no people skills. The receptionists as well as the representatives are wonderful. They smile and joke and can promote the school without your asking. Yet, the head of the school, Mr. Rogers is a complete (excuse my language but there’s really no other word to describe him) dick. Really what irony that a man with the name of Mr.Rogers could have the personality of a vegan zombie. He’s pretty much just a bully.

Over all the school looks to a pretty good deal. They teach what you need to know quickly then set you up with a job all for just thousands of dollars (and maybe your sole) asking nothing in return. Unfortunately it seems that school is nothing more then a swindle, hiding behind cleaver legal loop holes and depending on the gullibility of the bright eyed high school graduate with big dreams or the desperate family man, living off food stamps and minim wage searching for a quick solution.

Ether way you look at it the schools a scam, save yourself the trouble and just pick a different school.

  • The school is not too bad but I did get shafted when I was a student there. I went back in 2001-2002 and was taught Novell Netware management. What a JOKE! If I had known that Novell was a dying breed, I would never have taken the class. I wasted over $5000 for something that was utterly useless. They knew it was on its way out but still took advantage of the fact they could make money teaching it. You can compare this to being taught how to be a Windows 95 pro. A total waste of time and money. Now I did have a couple of good instructors (Dave, your the man!). But sometimes we would have previous students teaching our classes! I’m paying how much to be taught by a student? Oh well, you had to complete the Novell course to get your degree so I was stuck with it. My advice – Go to several schools and compare the curriculum. Make sure you’re not required to pay for and take a classes that you will see little to no benefit from.

  • I attended and graduated the A.S. program in Information Technology and the B.S. program in Network Security and Forensics. I completely agree with Andy on the quality of the school, it is very poor and a complete joke.
The reason why I completed the programs is due to the I could not transfer credits to another school. This is because of there joke accreditation through ACCSCT. FCT makes a big deal about national accreditation but regional is what matters (ITT is getting theirs but FCT won’t do it). If I had to do it all over again I would have went to a regionally accredited school. If you do start attending here your stuck.
To meet the requirements to grant a Bachelor’s degree for several programs the school actually granted the degrees to the instructors. Many of the instructors did not do the work or turned in shortened versions of the assignments.
The curriculum looks impressive on paper but not in practice. During the Associates program students spent more time playing games than actually learning. The teachers did the same and barely taught. If the teachers did teach they read straight from the book. All tests were open book and open notes multiple choice. I took courses at another college 5 years before this one and learned more in those two courses than the entire program here.
The Bachelors in Network Security was good as far as the courses book work is concerned, the hands on work was awful. The teacher for this program did try but still the courses were not challenging at all.
Since I graduated I’ve been to several seminars and watched several online courses and FCT didn’t even come close to teaching at a college level. I would definitely say a student who attends this school will not be prepared for a career in IT or Network Security. CHOOSE ANOTHER SCHOOL.
Oh, the school pushes the fact they have a career placement center. All the person does is look at the paper and what is online and sends the ads out to students. As far as contacting places and actively trying to promote students, it just doesn’t happen. Many of the students who I went to school with almost 2 years ago have still not found jobs in the field. DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL.

  • Fountainhead College of Technology was a good school at first glance. First off, the quality of teachers is relatively poor. There are some that rise to the challenge and do an excellent job teaching and maintaining an excellent learning environment. Unfortunately, the same can not be said for the rest. For example, my second semester teacher was incapable of starting, ending or otherwise simply writing a sentence that did not start or end with an “uh” or “um”. None of their labs ever worked and was incapable of fixing them on their own. None of the questions posed by the class were ever answered, rather we got repeated “I will have to look into it…” to never hear an answer. The instructor was frequently late, argumentative, and simply incapable of teaching the classes they was there to teach. These classes being word, HTML, SQL, and Visual Basic. The instructors resume stated a few years working with HTML as a web developer. Funny, I had to instruct the instructor on how to properly validate a web page. They brought their personal beliefs and political views to class daily for discussion. Simply no place for this in a tech school, especially when it would often times comprise most of the class time and lead to students being singled out due to their views. Third semester I figured would be better than the second, at least. This was a mistake. Many labs we started, encountered problems, and were never finished per the instructors choice. By the end of the semester most of the class played games or browsed the web, most played Farmville, together, with the instructor. It was clear early on that favorites were being played in the class. Some students would always have their questions answered for others to be ignored entirely. Many days were spent doing nothing. Rarely did class begin before 9:30 AM (day classes technically starting at 8 Am) leaving everyone sitting there twiddling thumbs. Often times labs would be over by 11:45 AM and it was frowned upon to leave before 12:30PM. For the high price you pay for FCT, you find yourself doing nothing most of the time. Friends of other instructors told tales of instructors showing up to class for only a few minutes to spend most of the time socializing in the hallway. Instructors that would rather teach on twitter or facebook (that is if they found the time to teach at all)and instructors that simply didn’t know the answers to the questions they would ask. As for the campus it’s self., I assure you, ANYTHING you see in a commercial for FCT simply IS NOT THERE. In fact, our class for Microsoft Networking used nearly decade old machines which they were planning on getting rid of. Excellent! Time for more modern technology! This is wrong. We were told all desktops were being phased out and instead we would be using our laptops given to us by the school. The laptops themselves are a whole other story. One which you should hear if you are still debating going to this school. First off, you do not get it untill the school receives your tuition. This is perfectly fair. What is not fair is that you can not take possession of your laptop till you sign a contract stating that even though you can not receive it till you have paid your tuition and technology fee, the school and reclaim it at any time before you leave and you can’t keep it until you graduate. The laptops we received were Dell Latitude D530s. We have a receipt stating that we were charged $1,200 even for the laptops. That day my classmates and myself looked up the same laptop for sell online for $530. We were told our laptops had more ram and special I/O ports. This was false. The $530 laptop we found on-line was the same in every way. Furthermore we paid for a 3 year unlimited warranty on our laptops and roughly $500 worth of software. To date I have yet to see a single piece of the software I paid for. I never received ANY of the keys I paid for, even for software used in class. I was supplied a generic key along with the rest of the class. Anti-virus software that was supposed to be installed on my laptop prior to my getting it was not nor did I ever receive the key for it. When my laptops power supply failed the school gave me a number to Dell to call to get it replaced under warranty. Dell informed me that they could not honor my warranty due to an issue with the school returning laptops and requesting more money for them than they should get for them. Took a month for my power supply to be replaced. Dell never replaced it under warranty, the school found me one laying around a month later after repeated trips to the administration to have the problem rectified. The administration it’s self is nearly a lost cause. Multiple times I had to wait for a week or more to talk to any of the administration in the school. At first I thought this was just vacation time being used up. After months of seeing the President, Vice President, and other key faculty members gone for weeks at a time I began to wonder if they just had a lot of vacation time or something better to do than make sure their school ran properly. At one point our instructor told us to talk to a member of faculty about a field trip we wanted to plan. When he finally returned 3 weeks later no one remembered, or cared, to ask. Constant absences and excuses are the norm at Fountainhead. I went to financial aid to get my grants in motion at the very beginning of my 3rd semester. I was told I would receive it in 3 weeks. I returned 3 weeks later to be told to fill out this paperwork they ‘forgot’ about 3 weeks prior. I return paperwork 4 days later. Over the next 2 weeks I return to financial aid when they asked me to return to check. During this time I get multiple “I will have to check on it later and see” to finally be told on week 3 that they “forgot” to submit it. After being told excuse after excuse ranging from “I’m sorry I must have misplaced your paperwork…” to “I’m sorry I forgot…” to my personal favorite (and one of the last excuses I ever allowed them to give me) “I’m sorry I just don’t feel like writing a check right now…” I finally washed my hands of this institution that I honestly can not refer to as nothing more than a racket. The recruiters go out of their way to offer you the moon and get you into the school. They will do a very convincing job in doing so. They like to focus on a few key things to entice you to give them your money. One they use is Infragard. Infragard it’s self is a good and legitimate organization. They have their meetings at Fountainhead’s campus. The recruiters and faculty will push you to become a member and participate because it can help students get a job. After following this advice, talking to other students, members and faculty, I discovered that students getting a job through the schools Infragard connections is not the norm. Actually, it doesn’t really happen all that often. To date just a couple of students ever, however, I suppose that is enough to make the claim. What I discovered most about Infragard is how FCT seems to use it to maintain their illusion of legitimacy. The school CAN NOT offer certification testing since it does not meet the requirements they need to offer it. The reason being, I was told, was because their network did not support the security needed. This, yet another excuse, coming from a school that prides it’s self on it’s Network Security and Forensics program didn’t meet the security requirements needed to do it’s own testing. Another way they support their illusion is by appearing at all the cyber security summits and on occasion have an instructor write a paper or give a presentation at one. Considering everything I experienced at Fountainhead College and it’s depressingly poor performance despite it’s tall claims, I began looking into Diploma Mills. FCT isn’t a diploma mill because it is actually an accredited school. I have discovered that it is not incredibly difficult to meet the requirements to be an accredited college in this state. In fact I found that someone from FCT actually wrote a paper on diploma mills and gave a presentation at a IT curriculum summit two years ago. The name, which I will not mention, was not an instructor I met, a member of the faculty that I met, or a student I met there. In other words, if this person was a student or part of the FCT faculty I never met them or as much as saw their name. As far as I can tell they haven’t been at FCT in at least the past year. As I stated earlier FCT loves to maintain an illusion. I assume (which I know I shouldn’t) given their previous track record and my experiences with the school personally that this is just another ruse to maintain their illusion of legitimacy. Funny for them to give a presentation on diploma mills for the school then vanish. Especially considering that the school barely qualifies as a school and is little better than a diploma mill it’s self. It’s obvious when the schools president and vice president walks around with a new toy every week, drives new expensive luxury cars, and still hasn’t completed the robot R2D2 they showed you a year ago but gets rid of all the computers for your classes, double charges you for a laptop then makes you sign a contract to give it to them even though you paid for it, constantly runs commercials on TV yet can not produce an instructor that can actually deliver on the promise they made you that something isn’t right. Seems like the focus here is on someones bank account rather than the future promised to their students. The best advice I can give anyone looking at this school is to don’t. Turn and walk away. I have been there, I assure you everything they tell you when they want to get you in isn’t entirely true. I have been told the same things, I have seen what they have to offer, it’s not what they promise. What else can you expect from a school that uses it’s downtime as a consignment flea market. It simply isn’t as legitimate as they try to pretend it is. Don’t make the biggest mistake of your life, keep looking.
