One Student Review of Goshen College

I am a recent graduate of the nursing program of this school. This school did NOT prepare the nursing students to be able to pass the state boards to earn their licensure. They SAID they offered many tutoring and practice sessions for this test, but due to timing and their own un-organized curriculum, all of these opportunities were not actually offered. When my class graduated, there was a 50% fail rate of the nursing boards (and accredited schools are supposed to have a 2% fail rate TOPS).
The professors are very biased. They expect a brand new student to know everything that a professional would know, and if you don’t, they will ridicule you in front of your fellow students, and clinical staff. There is no positive support for nursing students whatsoever. For the price of this college ($20,000) a year, just for tuition, it is a waste to have to spend $250 PER test to pass your state boards. I personally had to take the test 3 times to pass. Other classmates were working on 6th and 7th times.
The nursing department completely DROPS you as soon as you graduate. They do not follow up on who is passing boards, what theeee troubles are, etc. They just don’t seem to care. They have their money, they can be rid of the students after that.
The school overall is NOT a good place for anyone who is not Christian. Although they say that they embrace all cultures and religions, they do not. Christianity is forced on everyone. All of their chapels and convocations are Christian-based and a certain percentage of these, students are REQUIRED to attend in order to get their degrees.
The professors in other departments also seem to play favorites, especially with students who come from richer families, or AP classes. One professor actually LAUGHED at me in front of a class of 40+ because the answer I gave wasn’t “in depth” enough for her.
It’s ridiculous. As I have only gone here for nursing, I cannot say how the other programs compare, but the nursing program is DEFINITELY not worth the waste of time and money. You can get a cheaper and BETTER education at a community college. Healthcare facilities are often very leary of hiring Goshen College nursing students who have graduated because of their lack of knowledge after school….and even more leary if the student has not yet passed boards (because there is no guarantee that it will happen in a timely manner)
