IUPUI gets the best of both worlds academically–Indiana University AND Purdue University students.
So why go to IUPUI instead of one of those two universities? There are several reasons in my opinion.
1. We have Downtown Indianapolis as our backyard. As a student, you are going to have a million more research opportunities, internship opportunities, and job opportunities than you will ever have at a university in a typical college town.
2. We are not your typical college campus and that works in our favor. We don’t have a million fraternities/sororities to choose from, there are not humongous parties every weekend, and no, we don’t have a football team (and thus don’t have a traditional homecoming). However, that means that IUPUI can focus even more resources on what really matters: a fantastic education and good academic programs.
3. BUT we are still fun! Movies in the courtyard in the fall, the annual Regatta, Jag-a-Palooza, a spring homecoming, 350+ student organizations etc. And that’s just on campus which brings us to
4. The JagTag. The jagtag is your student id but also is a treasure chest. You can put money on it and use it as a debit card as a multitude of downtown restaurants (several near campus will offer a discount for students who use their jagtag). However, you can also present your jagtag at a wide range of stores downtown and get discounts. Many museums and attractions downtown will offer reduced admission to IUPUI students (for example the Eiteljorg Museum is free to IUPUI students. Indianapolis Zoo has reduced admission for IUPUI students etc.)
5. IUPUI has +200 academic programs to choose from. So if you start in one area but it’s not for you, there are a ton of other options to consider.
6. IUPUI is ranked 5th in US News and World Report’s list of up-and-coming universities for 2014.
