DON’T ATTEND THIS UNIVERSITY IF YOU ARE OFF THE “NORMAL” SPECTRUM AND/OR HAVE A PROBLEM. The professors told me that teaching was not my calling. They also told me it was ok if I work at Walmart the rest of my life. They questioned whether I have the ability to lead students. They also alienated me in class by telling me “They have lost all respect for me” for not hearing a question. I did not answer the question so they just thought I was being a coward. I also had another professor call on every student except me. When I had the boldness after class to ask her why, she told me “If you can’t talk to your professors, you can’t teach.” I also had another professor tell me “a real runner would not quit” after I quit track and cross country. He has never been a runner or in sports. Why would he care? He was my wind ensemble director. The only reason he would have said that was to hurt me. I have since taught in two positions. All students I have taken to solo and ensemble contest have received a first rating at district and state levels. My choir also received a first at contest. I still struggle with the thought that I can not be a good teacher because they did not see any potential in me. I still wonder if I have any potential. Because they alienated me, I now feel inferior to everyone.
