4 Student Reviews of Northern Illinois University

  • This is a terrible school and over priced. I attended for 3 semesters and the transfered to the University of Colorado. The difference was staggering. You get at least twice the financial aid at flagship schools, the professors aren’t lazy and you actually get your money’s worth. If you go to this school get out while you can. You can transfer to most public Ivy schools with a 3.2 GPA. It will be the best decision you ever make.

    Overall Score: (1.18/5.00)
  • Make sure you really need the degree for what you want to do. Depending on your major it might be worth going. Go try to hit up some students around the building(s) for your major and ask them what they think. Preferably older students who have been through most of their program. Most gen ed classes are a joke, massive grading curve, 200-500 student lecture halls. I graduated and found a job, but don’t think it had much to do with my degree. Having a good portfolio (if applicable to your career) is more important than the degree in many situations.
