6 Student Reviews of San Diego State University

  • I obviously made the wrong decision coming here. First off, a little information about me so you can see SDSU from my eyes. I am a shy black girl from out of town. The first thing I will discuss is probably the first thing people consider when picking a college:

    ACADEMICS
Even though I have only been here for a semester I can honestly say that professors are always willing to help you and tutoring is available for almost every class. The library {although confusing} is a great place to study, sleep, or even eat.

    SOCIAL LIFE
If you shy, I would recommend another school. Everyone is going to say that there shy and within the next day they will have made their “college bff”. If your not some fake slut or a drama queen it is going to be hard for you to get noticed or make friends. As you all know there is a huge party scene, but that can be avoided. A lot of people are unfriendly towards other races, and a lot of people are stuck in high school. If you have a hard time making friends the counselors (and pretty much everyone else) are going to tell you to join clubs. They treat you like a number instead of as an individual. For example, I joined three clubs and I wouldnt necessarily consider the people I met in those clubs as “friends”. Everyone is also going to tell you to be more outgoing. I believe that you should be able to be yourself (I made plenty of friends in high school as a shy girl).

    DORMS:
The dorms are pretty outdated. Recently they built a suite style dorm called cuicacalli that anyone can live in. There are eight girls or boys to one suite. Each suite has 6 singles and 1 double along with a two bathrooms (each with four people) a living room (shared by all eight people) and a refridgerator and a microwave (shared by eight people). I would strongly recommend getting the single, because you get so much more bang for buck. Its only a thousand dollars more, but you can do whatever you want, and its the only dorm on campus like that. The people in the dorm are so so. If you stay inside your room all day your considered “anti-social” instead or just being shy or just being you. A lot of people start drama, again- some people are stuck in high school.

    CAMPUS
The campus is quite average. When I came here I was expecting much more. Theres a pond with a cute turtle and some koy fish, nice trees, and plenty of places to enjoy some downtime. There is also a bike lane which is very convenient. The library is built underground which is kind of cool. The weather is around 60 in the winter and 90 in the summer so its pretty nice. You will notice everyone on campus wears the same thing (or at least I did). Most girls in the summer wear flip flops and shorts and in the winter they wear leggings and ugg boots. Guys wear the same thing year around- an SDSU sweat shirt and some blue jeans. You can spot the frats or the sorority girls by the purses or their ties.

    COST
It is extremely expensive. I had to take out loans and Im in EOP (Educational Opportunity Program). Dont even bother the counselor, they will just say- apply for scholarships.

I regret my decision coming here but then again everyone’s experience is different. I will be transfering soon hopefully, or just drop out.

  • San Diego State is usually listed in tier four of colleges and universities, in other words, at the bottom. In fact, it is a bad community college where students pretend to be students and profs pretend to teach. The guiding ideas of the faculty: opportunism, racism, ignorance, and cowardice. The faculty gave up academic freedom around 2000, at the first budget crisis; best profs have left. Students take six years to graduate as they cannot get into overcrowded required classes taught by boring morons. Granted, the women are exquisite and the drugs plentiful.

  • its is like high school,so pathetic. Its ashame because the school offers alot of great majors and classes but im so tired of all the spoiled rich morons walking around

  • Good school for the price. If you like acting like you’re still in highschool, SDSU has a huge greek system full of d********s, slooties, and stds.
Large variety in education programs + post graduate programs.

Better looking girls on this campus than probably most schools in the country.
