Studying at Universidad de San Pedro Sula (USPS) had a mixture of everything. It was overall a great experience and I believe that, for my major which was communications and advertising, we had great opportunities, teachers, logistics and labs. The USPS is located in San Pedro Sula, Honduras second largest city, and that gave me the advantage of having a good environment and great opportunities to develop my skills in a job and at the same time I could still be attending classes regularly.
If I could describe my experience in one word I would say: A Rollercoaster. Although I had great times, sharing knowledge, experiences and opportunities with fellow classmates and learning from them, still I feel I could have had a bit more taste and feel of “real-world-cases”, that is, learning from doing, and hands-on experience.
Professors were great, encouraging, stimulating and interesting, with a few exceptions that were stuck on time and had no open mind for progressive ideas which, in my opinion, must be a part of a professor’s way of thinking, that is, exploring new ideas and concepts and teaching them in their classes.
A difficult part of being a student here was trying to take an organized schedule. Classes were not arranged in a way we could follow a steady flowchart of classes, but we rather had to skip and stay behind because of these. Administration processes and registering for a period or semester was not that good, using a gruesome website that was down most of the time.
This campus is overall good. Enough classrooms, new buildings have been added since I graduated that house new libraries, labs and even a TV Station, which I would have loved to have in my college days, and when I talk to my ex-classmates about it they seem fascinated about having that hands-on opportunity in a state-of-the-art TV station. (some are still there) does not have any dorms/housing system, however, it was close to many residential areas which made it easy to find a perfect apartment/house that you could rent, and they were mostly a few blocks away.
The best and most attractive thing about USPS is how affordable it is. It is not a state university, but yet you can get the best education for a great price, Still, with all I’ve mentioned, I felt great studying here, as I had the best education my professors could give me within the campus limitations. I definitely could have used a bit more extracurricular opportunities and they need to update its administrative system, but I had a great time studying and graduating from USPS, I made great friends that are now my colleagues and even job and business partners, and, above all, had professors and counselors that excelled at what they do, and were more than eager to share their knowledge, experience, and passion with us.
