The University of literature and human sciences, which is located in SouissiRabat, has many departments but I’ll only talk about my experience as a student in the English department. First, we have many different teachers but we can put them in two different categories: good teachers and bad teachers. The ‘good teachers’ will help you anytime you want. They try their best to teach students good stuff. But the most interesting thing about this university is bringing foreign teachers especially Americans. We had an awesome American teacher that could help us write very well. We could become professional writers if we had her for all the semesters because she’s a professional editor that knows how to pinpoint grammar mistakes, punctuation and word choice. Her comments really helped me to better my writing after all. Well, we also have bad teachers that don’t really teach well. And in the worstcase scenario, they themselves don’t know their subject to ever teach it to students. And there are those teachers who won’t even listen to you if you ask them about something you didn’t understand. Let alone the ‘sick teachers’ who keep only searching for a way to pick on students. You don’t feel at ease in class with them at all and you’re always tense and nervous because of them. The second issue to be tackled is ‘students’. We have this kind of students who don’t really know why they chose to study English. Their English is very bad yet, they don’t want to learn anything. These students are always talking in class which only shows how uninterested they are in the subject. We shouldn’t forget that there are also students who have a very modest level at English but they’re still trying hard to keep up with other students. The best thing about the university is competitions that it organizes especially for English students. We get the chance to meet and do public speaking or debate and so on. And it also brings highly professional lecturers or writers who give us free seminars on very interesting subjects. It really helps us; at least we get to attend public speakers’ seminars from Britain or the United states. There is another good thing about the university, which is the schedule table. Well, first year students only have to go in the mornings, second years students go in the afternoons and third year students go inbetween. So you don’t have to make two trips a day to the university or anything. Unfortunately, it is far for most of the students. There are those who take two buses and those who take the tram for one trip. We usually arrive very late and tired to class and for that we cannot follow with the teacher. What makes the location worse is the construction works which are nearby, and those are very noisy. If you really want to study in this university, just hope that you are lucky enough to have good teachers and good classmates; otherwise, your best choice is to ignore everything and study on your own. And if you get a degree you can either follow master studies or become a teacher depending on your goals.
