I really enjoyed my 4 years at U of O — I was so sad to graduate! I have many fond memories of my time here. The campus is very beautiful (mix of old & new buildings) and located conveniently downtown, right next to anything and everything. I had many interesting and inspiring professors. My program (Sociology) offered well-structured courses with more seminar-styled classes in the later years to prepare you for graduate studies. I really enjoyed everything about my time here.
The school is more modern than most and its surroundings are pretty nice.
Profs for the most part were good minus the econ prof (just not the teaching style that works for most).
Psychology major at UTM = it’s ok. I found the classes rather dull and similar in structure and delivery. Classes fill up fast and it can really f**k with your scheduling- I had to take a 5th year part time due to scheduling problems with courses, and I was VERY careful in planning my course selection- make sure you have a few courses your prepared to take as an alternative, because the courses you want to get into may fill up.
Courses are fantastic, teachers are helpful, buildings are HUGE (you can get lost in those tunnels!) It feels like a big American campus.
Good univ for electrical
I’ve mainly taken philosophy so my comments on courses apply to the philosophy department.
The courses in 3rd and 4th year but 1st and 2nd year are repetative. The profs are amazing and really teach about the material and not their personal opinion on the subject.
That’s all that is good about the school.
The campus is complicated and run down. The organization of classes is horrible, multiple times I have had classes that I need to graduate or are an option in my program offered at the same time and I had to pick one and not take the other one (these are topics that I wanted to focus on when I graduated but now won’t be able to unless I come back for an extra year or two). Some of the courses that were listed on the program outline on the website aren’t even offered and have never been offered at the university!
The administration is horrible. I have a medical condition and have needed to use Access Services to help me. They are great people but the university make your life difficult and you end up putting twice the effort into your courses just because you have a disability. I was force out of one of my classes when a professor refused to give me the academic accomidation provided to me by Access Services.
The school life is great if you speak both english and french, but if you just speak english you will feel discriminated against because you do not speak french. Once I was in the library studying and they made an announcement in french and didn’t repeat it in english.
Indeed, the university has a perfectly located campus in the heart of Ottawa. Much more attractive to french or bilingual speakers as numerous programs and extra curriculars are designed for them. The ongoing multicultural events are very enjoyable and offer something for everyone. The professors improve once you make it through the first couple of years. All in all a good experience.

So my girlfriend’s told me to come visit UofO because of the beautiful campus and hot students – the campus is all concrete, like a jungle. And as for hot boys – yuck. The only good thing is that RES is close to the bars, that’s it. Avoid at all costs.

Unhelpful if you are not a native French speaker. Very hard to get into full courses. Horrible scheduling. Fun extracurricular clubs and events…couldn’t find any hot gentlemen though. Oh well, maybe next year the freshmen will be better!!
University is superbly located in the city of Ottawa, its in walking distance of pretty much everything, including the capitol buildings. The university is fairly stimulating and there is a great student-teacher ratio after your 3rd year. University is known throughout Canada for having great student job opportunities. All in all, a great university, just hope you have a scholarship before entering!!
