14 Student Reviews of Husson University

  • As a NESCom student, I’ve enjoyed my stay at Husson so far. Most of the courses are plenty stimulating. The professors that I have had so far, have all been professional and are qualified to teach in my opinion. The only stipulation is that depending on the professor, the level of difficulty adapting to their teaching styles vary. It is my personal belief that stimulation directly correlates to interest. If someone does not have an interest on a topic, they will not be stimulated. Of course, stimulating students is also part of the job of teaching, but professors can only go so far. In terms of networking & job opportunities, there have been plenty of options from what I’ve seen. However, not all of them applied to me, and are not as plentiful as I first imagined/hoped for. I am not quite sure what “Area Around Campus” represents, but I am assuming it is talking about the city. I do not go out often so I am neutral on the matter. Affordability is low compared to the rest of my ratings because the price a bit high for what it offers as an overall package. The Housing situation is neutral because the school is constantly updating its housing situation. I have not encountered any problems so far with housing. We have so many options for extracurriculars, especially clubs. The only kicker is that no one knows about them due to under-advertisment for the clubs. I feel like the university can do a better job promoting the clubs that exist. The teachers/student ratio is decent compared to the bigger schools. Administration/Staff is semi-competent from the situations I have encountered so far. Hotness is warm? It is a decent university overall, maybe not for the price, but it is still a decent university.

  • Obtaining my graduate degree here has been a dream come true. The instructors, campus and course selection has been fantastic!!

  • I am a first generation college student at Husson University and Husson continuously goes above and beyond to answer any and all questions I have about the college process and beyond. I was extremely confused when it came time to apply for financial aid and scholarships, and Husson’s faculty in the financial aid department, student accounts, and even many of my professors patiently and nicely guided me in the right direction.

I am a Criminal Justice/Psychology dual degree student and all my professors in my major-related classes have been extremely qualified and eager to help me learn. My class sizes have always been small (usually under 20 students. I even had a class where there were 3 students total!) which I love! I am constantly encouraged to grow as a student and person in my every day life through the value my professors take in each and every one of their students. In short, I feel extremely valued at Husson.

Husson University is a great choice for higher education and I’m glad I chose this school.

  • Husson is a joke. None of the student services at Husson actually work for the students. The bookstore doesn’t have books for your classes. Financial Aid will try to bully you. The Dean makes sure that any class they can hand over to some shitty adjunct professor, or teach “online” but still charge you the same amount as a regular class, or otherwise screw you over and take your money, THEY WILL. They brag all the time about their professors being professionals in the field, and therefore argue you’re getting some “real life” “super-valuable” education–the problem is, they don’t give a crap whether or not their professors can teach. Most of them can’t. Most of my classes this semester involved the professor basically reading the textbook to us and giving a multiple choice exam. I started the paralegal program because they told me they could give me a semester-long internship…JUST KIDDING! You pay them for three credit hours and then have to find your own internship…and if they don’t teach you anything at the internship and just make you photocopy for 10 hours a week, so be it. Husson doesn’t care. This school is a TOTAL RIPOFF. DO NOT GO HERE.

  • If you are not white, stay away from Husson, Maine and probably the whole Northeast. There is so much negativity and racism if you are simply not white. You are graded based on your ethnicity and you will hate your experience here. However, some of the faculty and staff are very intelligent and respectful.

  • Honestly..Husson has a few really good instructors but most are idiots. They teach you 2+2=4 and then test you on 4-2+2-2 = ? There are some students that had 3.7 GPA’s in other schools and then find themselves on the border of academic probation at Husson….absolutely pathetic school. Do NOT come here unless you really really really have no choice!

  • Husson University should be called Husson Highschool, really. Administration treats you like you’re fifteen years old. I missed i don’t feel like writing any more.

  • A few great, a few horrible, and mostly mediocre instructors.
Nobody should be hired to teach just because they’re employed in a certain area. Having a job as a Widget Manager doesn’t mean you’re capable of teaching people about widgets. Worst class I’ve ever taken in my life I got at Husson.

  • school is terrible!!!! anyone with authority is rude and the financial aid office is impossible

  • So, husson isnt a bad school as far as education. but in every other aspect it is lacking. They accept more students every year and have no place to house them, they put 4 people in 3 person rooms and all the extra person gets is a bed..A BED!!???. The internet never works in the dorms so dont count on it it never works and if it does its slow as F***. the dorms are way outdated and in some cases only have two outlets in the ENTIRE room. the even had to put a dozen kids in a hotel this year because they didnt have enough housing. Not to mention parking sucks, dont bother moving your car because you will NEVER find a parking spot. the dining commons was built in the 70’s… enough said. They dont allow school dances or anything of the sorts anymore, financial aid is a joke, student accounts is a joke, admissions is a joke.. did you know husson has a 30% graduation rate!!?? 30%!!?? THATS AWFUL!! Ya financial aid told me i had to much financial aid….figure that one out apparantly my parents are supposed to pay for my school like all the other stuck up kids that flunk out after the first semester here. Husson will accept anyone so if you want to come here then don’t fret it you will be accepted,

EVEN IF YOUR A 40 YEAR OLD CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER! IT HAPPENED AND HUSSON LET HIM LIVE IN THE DORMS!!!

  • I will attest to the fact that the “backshop” of Husson (FinAid, registrars, deans setting-up classes) are near-incompetent. For a business school, they had major problems years ago with student aid and actually helping their students. I dealt with them almost 10 years ago, and they are not getting any better. If you have the money to do it, you’re almost golden… but if you are relying on financial aid, prepare for a fight.

    Overall Score: (2.7/5.00)
  • The area is alrght and the professors are good however the dean and financial aid office show the students no respect and dont even try to help students when they have tough situations.

  • Hey anyone planning on attending college next year. I just figured I could help you out if you were planning on attending husson U. in Bangor Maine. I suggest looking else where. This place so far has been awful to me and several other students. First personally I Took out a loan for my living expenses and Husson took away some of the awards that they gave me. they claimed that it was because i became a commuter but they didn’t take the money until they saw I got a loan. A student I know was in the hospital for three days and when she had a doctors note the dean said it didn’t matter and she takes the absences. Now she cant miss another class all semester. These are only two cases I have heard of several more. If you plan on coming here for school. go to orono 10 minutes away. Thats where I plan on spending my Sophomore year because this College is terrible. I have heard several students admit that Husson sugar coated everything before the students arrived. That is just my experience already. I hope this helps and you find I better school then I did.
