Unfortunately, I can’t speak to every single thing that made me regret taking this program, as it could likely be tracked back to me based on how small the cardio tech community is in my city.
For starters, none of the instructors have teaching degrees, they are ‘industry professionals’… do with that what you will.
Because the entire program is online, getting any type of help or feedback was like pulling teeth. Anytime I had a question, I was waiting days to get a response back. As a student, I was expected to work through the weekends but was told that instructors didn’t have to engage on the weekend, as it was their time off. Cool.
There were plenty of items that we paid for and never used (textbooks, lab supplies).
This program insists that every student learn to draw blood. There is allegedly no way around this, even though every cardio tech I’ve asked, has said they’ve NEVER drawn blood in their entire career. This portion of the program was such a money grab. Oh, and we all practiced drawing blood on each other, which was gross, painful and pointless.
Near the end of the program, you learn how to analyze holters. A holter monitor is a device worn by a patient for 24-72 hours that captures their heart’s activity. As a cardio tech, it is your job to then look at the data collected from the device, and pick out late beats, early beats, long pauses, any anomalies, etc. Stenberg teaches this portion using the MOST outdated software, literally archaic. There was also ZERO consistency in marking these holter assignments. You and a friend could do the EXACT same work, and one of you would be given 100%, and the other person would be given 0 and be told to do it again. Stenberg does not want to shell out extra money for updated software, so doing holter analysis for 4 weeks, 7 hours a day, was a different kind of hell that I would not wish upon even my worst enemy.
Being a student during practicum was consistently rough. It was like being an outcast in high school. Seasoned techs acted like they were better than you, and a lot of them had no interest in helping students learn. To be honest, most of the techs just acted annoyed when students were around.
It was nearly impossible to bring concerns up to staff members. They just didn’t care to listen, and ultimately, ‘complaining’ would just put a target on your back.
Practicum ended on February 24th 2023, and the program officially ended on March 6th, 2023. Diplomas were sent out, and then a long two months of nothingness began, before May 1st and 2nd, which would be the first opportunity to write the CSCT exam.
For two months, the lead instructor of the cardio tech program did 1.5-hour review sessions almost daily, from the beginning of March up until May 1st.
These sessions were meant to prep us for the exam. So for two months, roughly 100 students tuned in to these sessions, watched them multiple times, most likely took notes, and studied them religiously… Cut to the actual exam- It was NOTHING like the review sessions we had all regarded so highly. I felt extremely blindsided, as did my peers. When students emailed the CSCT board to state their disappointment, they were met with a mass response that essentially said that talking with other students about the exam could be regarded as cheating and that if any of us wanted to volunteer our free time to help create next years exam, we should.
When I emailed the lead instructor about my disappointment in the exam format, the answer was simply, “They must have changed directions this year.”.
The absolute icing on the cake is that this program costs TWENTY SEVEN THOUSAND dollars, and after all that money, all the education, and all the headaches, a large handful of hospitals will just teach their x-ray techs and respiratory techs to do EKG’s, so they don’t have to pay an ACTUAL cardio tech to be in the hospital overnight. That’s right, you can go to school for 14 months, and then clinical settings will just hold 3-day training sessions for x-ray/respiratory techs, and they are instantly just as qualified as you, to do an EKG.
In my opinion, you should save your money. Go to a local college. If you feel like you desperately want to do EKG’s, take the x-ray program in your hometown instead… You’ll eventually be taught to do EKG’s, and you’ll make more money.
Please DO NOT waste your time or your money taking this program. Anytime I hear that anyone is even slightly interested in it, I make sure to steer them the other way. Sure, I’ve completed the entire thing, but it is my biggest academic regret. I can think of 100 other ways I would have rather spent almost 30 thousand dollars.
There are so many other very shady and sketchy things that occurred during my time with Stenberg, but there isn’t enough room on the internet, and everything else I have to say is not nice, so I’ll leave it at that, and pray to God that other vulnerable people don’t make the same mistake I did.

Red flags:
– I was accepted into the college despite having mistakenly submitted my Detailed Academic Report rather than my official transcript. This report (as stated on the file) is not to be used by institutions and only by the student. This displayed poor examination of my education and a desperate need for students
– Whether or not I was accepted was very unclear. I never received an official acceptance letter, email, or text until I was sent my contract. I figured I had been accepted when I was asked via text by my program advisor (PA) to enroll and pay the registration fee
– After acceptance, I was suggested by my PA twice to enroll in the July 2023 semester (1.5 months away) despite me clarifying my interest in the January semester multiple times and that I do not live in B.C, thus it would be an insane to move in that time frame
– Poor communication: simple emails/texts took questionably long to be responded to. My PA told me they would email my contract over tomorrow— it took a week.
– Speedy and free application process comes across as desperate and suspicious. My program had a maximum of 18 spots and I was accepted very quickly.
– $18,200 for a 7 month program
– I read a review of someone saying that there used to be awful reviews of Stenberg on Facebook and Google but are now mysteriously gone. I am not surprised by this. For a college with so many poor student experiences, there should be more public complaints than what I can find online. It would make sense if the school took action.
Red flags of contract/Program outline and Info I think you should know:
– The program outline states that admission requires a criminal record check and a verbal English test— I was accepted without both. The outline is likely outdated and now inaccurate, displaying poor maintenance of information for students.
– My program requires 5 hours of work a week (Monday-Friday) plus 10-15 hours of homework. Let’s say we end up doing 15 hours of homework a week. This averages 8 hours of individual, online work a day.
– The maximum registration fee for domestic students is $250, international is $1,000
– The contract states that “students understand that they will be graded on attitude and behavior while attending Stenberg College and such grades will be a consideration in determining their graduation status.” Determining whether or not a student graduates on such subjective grounds is extremely questionable and this wording is suspiciously vague. This portion of the contract needs more clarification. Imagine completing your 640 hours of online work only to be denied graduation status due to an incorrect evaluation of your attitude during a lab.
– Tuition refunds occur on the basis of various scenarios, but generally speaking, the tuition is no longer refunded 7 days after the contract is signed (this could be months before the course actually starts)
– 70% passing grade for overall course and exams
These are my experiences before even attending the school, and I can not imagine how poor the quality must be for students. It is easy to become excited about this school due to their easy acceptance process and little admission requirements, but please do not overlook the reviews and red flags. There are always other options and I encourage everyone to remain mindful of anything that feels off when dealing with secondary schools.
I wish everybody here great success and I hope that you are all very well compensated for the damage this place has caused you!
WINNING2022! JUSTICE FOR ALL FORMER STENBERG STUDENTS!
I discourage anyone for stenberg . stenberg is s**t
I was falsely accused of harrassing students during labs. 9 students including 2 guys complained. In my section there were 2 guys me and another guy They wanted me to sign a letter. Harassed and bullied me for 2 months. Meetings. Emails.and coming to my class 5 times a day. I was not suspended or removed from clinical were the patients are vulnerable. In fact i got over 92% on my claases. 100% communication and pharmacology. 100% clinical eval. I left due to the constant harassment
Conflict of interest is bad, Mmmm kay?
like many of you i am a former student who was ripped off by this school. i witnessed first hand how they discriminate against foreign students. recent advertusing with the nurse Jackie G video only proves thier attitude.

Context: I took the RDPN program, graduated in 2019, and am currently a registered psychiatric nurse. The job opportunities are endless as an RPN, I busted my ass and now work in acute psych and psych emerg.
Just wait- they’re going to say “i’m fake” “I work for the college” and didnt actually graduate from stenberg.

This school wrongdoing should stop now.

like you i have been wronged by this school and i want to organize a class action lawsuit against them.
1.) The cost is ridiculous, $15,000 for an online course…yes, ONLINE meaning minimal overhead, I paid $11,500 less to a community college trades program for 1 year and that was in class. For the amount of money you will pay to stenberg your access to teacher aid is abysmal support staff do not help you with anything and will ignore your emails if you are struggling and need help with your course.
2.) Quality of the courses is misrepresented. In my experience the first two classes in my cohort were simple, easy to follow with plenty of exercises that reinforced the material and the instructor although tough she was fair and allowed students who just barely missed the passing grade (80%) to make up for it by doing extra work and quizzing. However once we got to the Law and Ethics portion of our course…oh good lord. it was terrible, the course was disorganized and poorly guided by the equally useless instructor we had who only answered in vague cryptic (maybe it will maybe it wont) type of answers, which drove me nuts.
3.) 80% passing grade! are you insane?! and even 90% on the mathematics course, I can understand for the program i am in you need to be accurate in your work. However this is theory, not real life. I am the type of person who is a hands on learner and i can tell you for a fact it will not matter how hard i study by reading a book once i do something i will retain it.
4.) The college REALLY does try to fail you. I have talked to a few students who have failed their courses and their only option was to pay Stenberg even MORE money and wait a year for the next cohort. this stinks of fraudulent business practices as the school will charge you the same tuition for only the portions of the course you failed!
(((That is illegal.)))
On top of the passing grade being ridiculous and the course which is really supposed to be a 2 year diploma course is crammed into 10 months. it is no surprise that students will fail some portion of it.
5.) They lie about their product: Let me explain this, i went to the seminar and was told that i would need to dedicated 3-4 hours of study per day to this course, not bad i thought! well i was wrong. For the majority of this course i have spent at LEAST 7-8 hours per day and during the last two weeks of the Law course i couldn’t even leave my house (i don’t have a laptop) i was suffering from cabin fever and extreme anxiety. I was told all sorts of things like i will have access to support from the college, which to be fair the financial support was there however anything else. non-existent
6.) the admin staff is disorganized. i had to run around like a chicken with my head cut off for a total of four months both prior to and during the course because my paperwork kept getting misplaced…including my credit card information! (HUGE RED FLAG THERE!) which like the law and ethics course also drove me to incredible amounts of anxiety and stress. I may have saved a year in getting a job in the field but i probably cut five off of my lifespan.
All of these reviews are genuine as i can relate to every single one of them and the vast majority go into a disturbing amount of detail which only lends credibility to the fact that this school is a terrible place to go. yes you will get into the work force earlier yes it is accredited. however unless you are a bookworm and don’t have a job you will have a very…VERY bad time. and you only run a significant risk of failing and then getting taken advantage of by the college.
Now i see alot of people who are angry and upset but i want to let you know there is hope. this College is not invincible and they have been sued before. In fact i can’t really call it a lawsuit because the very second they went to court. Stenberg College settled. The school promised her a place in a practicum and failed to deliver, instead they took her money and said too bad, so sad. here is the full story…
https://thetyee.ca/News/2009/05/12/RedTaped/
If you have been victimized by the school i would recommend keeping track of every conversation. getting in touch with a lawyer and not wasting any time. you may not have alot of resources but if you have been denied the service they extol you WILL at the very least get your money back.
This needs to change asap and give students the option to do extra credit or give another version of the exam as a way to ensure student success. Instead they make you wait 1 year and make you pay to re enter. This is completely disheartening and I hope this changes
– They take the whole tuition upon entry and do not help you with anything.
-The teachers don’t know nothing for the important courses that involve thinking. The teachers misdirect you and haven’t done there jobs in explaining what the important stuff is going to be on the exam.
– They give you no time to study and book stupid things such as food safe and first aid right before the most important exams. Having three exams a week and then doing stupid s**t like that.
– You get 5 rewrites and once you have used them you are out. You have to repeat the whole program even though you have just failed one class. All your hardwork goes down the drain. In normal colleges you just repeat the class instead of repeating the whole program.
– 70% is the passing rate which is ridiculous because on some final exams they give you a test that you couldn’t study for. You could of read the textbook, handouts and homework assignments and you still wouldn’t have an idea about whats on the test. They tell you most of the stuff is on the power point handouts but they are not. They should’ve of emphasized what would be on the test but they don’t and they don’t care and dont teach at all. They do nothing if you appeal it. They are never accountable like they claim to be. There is 4-5 classes going on with no timing at all and then they misdirect the class like this. you pay your tuition and still get treated like a slave with mass repercussions.
– Only a really small amount of students passed from the first semester out of 40 students. As little as 8 people.
-The lab exams are unfair as some of the lab teachers will try to fail you on minor things which is bullshit. Rewrites have to be used for these exams as well. The lab teacher could fail you over basically nothing luckily this didn’t happen to me but i see it could’ve if i got the wrong lab tester
– You have to wait to go into another semester if you have failed a class because they want to scam someone elses money since they already have your money and they want double the money by scamming more people.
– Your failure makes them money and plain simple. They set traps for your failure whether it be final exams (as i explained above) or lab exams.
– they take a huge tuition fee and take it upon entrance and you can’t get it back.
– you get 5 rewrites and your out. u have to redo everything not just one class but the whole program even if you are in your last semester.
-they give no time to study
– the lab instructors are not fair and they fail ppl for bullshit reasons even though I passed I saw how it could happen to me. And you have to use rewrites for these lab exams. It all depends on who you get as your lab tester.
– teachers don’t know anything
– they take all this money but never do anything.
– if you fail you have to wait around till they can find seats for you even though you have paid your tuition because you are just money to them. they want to screw someone else over by taking there money because you have already paid and it no longer matters. Stenberg only cares about money.
– you have to get 70 percent in all classes to pass this is ridiculous because for some final exams they purposely put questions on the test that aren’t fair. They are questions that you won’t find in the books or homework assignments. There is 1000 pages of reading for each final and they do not give you any clue what to study. Escpecially since most the questions on the exam you cannot find. These are the types of tests that u could’ve read everything and studied for weeks and u still wouldn’t know. The reason is they want people to fail. The least they could do is teach properly and give us the right information which they have failed to do and are never accountible for there actions like they say they are.
– you could be a A plus student in all classes but it wouldn’t matter.
– they make money off your failure plain and simple so they will set traps and do shady things whether it be on tests (like I explained above) or lab exams.
– they literally book stupid things before exams such as first aid or food safe when the class has to study for the hardest exams that you sleep over.
– the managers and everyone working here just backs each other up and covers things up scamming people. They act all nice but know what they are doing.
0/5 I wouldn’t recommend anybody give these frauds business.
I’m a graduated Nursing Unit Clerk at stenberg so nothing I say will come out of spite. And this will only apply to Nursing Unit Clerk Program. As I never done the others so I can’t say.
Pros:
-Some instructors are the best and they are super caring and likeable. Manita, I’m talking about you if you are reading this. She is a very kind instructor and actually want to see you succeed.
-You have a much more higher expectation from your school but in real life you realize that this career is easier that you expect. So you are practically more well prepared.
-Talking to my preceptor and many unit clerks out there in the hospital they tell me continuously that they rather have stenberg student than kwatlen.
Con:
-like any school there are good and bad teachers. One of my teacher is super rude and when I asked what are the abbreviation answers (each course has a set of abbreviations and some of them are the same word but different meanings) and she said “look it up on google”
-The School is a private institute so they are pretty expensive. And while it is true that if you dont pass you don’t get your money back it isnt impossible for you to graduate.
-You have to get 70% or higher to pass your exam and you only get one re-try before you are kicked out of the program.
-I am a C student back in high school and in this school I graduated with all A’s and one B. Not saying it is easy. It’s a lot of time and dedication as I have a disability and it can take me up to 8-10 hours of studying each day but it ISN’T IMPOSSIBLE.
-Some courses I found very useless that could have been useful for other things. Like communications.
-I also think that 9 months is long because of all the useless courses. It could easily be put together as a 6 month course in my opinion.
-Us being well prepared you got to understand that most of these are old school. I’m talking about paper works. this career is all done online now. so we are well prepared but it is also useless because nothing is done by requisitions.
With that being said do I recommend this school? No. I think it is overprice for what you pay for however its not a bad school. Stenberg is well known for Nursing Unit Clerks. They hire us a lot because of our knowledge
Using software which are obsolete in market already. Labs are outdated and you need to arrange volunteer yourself.
Total waste of time and money please avoid and look for other colleges as lots of better options are available.
They have no integrity, honesty and are most certainly unprofessional. I’m trying to find a place to complain but information on how and where to compain is not forthcoming.
They are just money making machine they don’t care about students. They will spoil your career easily and waste your time without any regret if you fall behind 70 % criteria they will not let you proceed and you will be out of course. You cant repeat and you have to wait for next year. No compromise its waste of time and money.
No where to complaint against them
its a waste please avoid them
thx
First, let’s note the positive aspects of the program.
1)Upon completion of the RDPN program you will get a diploma and the ability to take the RPN licensing exam which will enable you to work as an RPN (if you pass). 2) There are a number of teachers who are very caring, who desire to teach their curriculum in as interesting a way as possible, and who genuinely care that you comprehend the material. 3) Nearly every “clinical instructor” that I had was excellent and cared about ensuring we become competent psychiatric nurses. They worked very hard to ensure good relationships with their clinical sites. 4) It’s online – so if you excel at that kind of learning environment you will enjoy it (I didn’t and would have rather had in class learning but still managed to excel). 5) Most of my fellow classmates were awesome. 6) The program is accelerated and you get to work a year sooner than other programs. 7) Unlimited gauze and wound care kits for you. 8) As with most relationships, once the instructors trusted your skills they would relax and work with you, allowing for reasonable things such as extensions, extra credit, or time off. 8) At some point beyond the half way point, you just stop caring about the daily postings – because you have mastered APA and realize that some instructors may not even be reading your posts – which leads to some very humorous posts.
All those good aspects notwithstanding, there were a number of negative components to the program, often in direct relation to the positive aspects.
1)The program alone did not feel sufficient to allow me to pass the entrance exam. There was a lot of extra work that needed to be put in as it felt that there were large gaps in what was being taught and what was sufficient to practice. 2) There was no correspondence by instructors in the course that was designed to prepare students for the exam and there was only one practice exam for the entrance exam in one of the final active courses. The main complaint with the practice exams provided were that they seemed to be very outdated and many students voiced that they felt that the exam seemed more designed to prove to students that they were not ready to take the exam, rather than to help them learn and focus on weak areas. 3) The program was “culled” (I’m not sure what other word to use other than that)(also psychiatric nursing program typically have a large drop-out rate). We lost at least half of the students in the program from start to finish – for a variety of reasons. Most students were kicked out of the program for a variety of academic reasons and many of them reported that they felt the process happened very quickly, with little communication on the part of the college, and that there was very little opportunity to argue their cases. 4) Some instructors were frustrating to have, both in online personality and in course delivery methods. 5) Some of the courses felt pointless and could have been replaced with much more vital courses that could have benefitted the skill set of the psychiatric nurse (ex: There was really only one course that taught therapeutic communication skills and one course that taught pharmacology – some courses should be removed to allow for those courses to be taught throughout multiple semesters. 6) The program is accelerated and online so it is very easy to get left behind and scrape your way through until a later semester only to find you are unprepared for your duties. 7) It is a private college and it is so very very expensive. They send you small gifts every once in a while but for 40 000 dollars they should have been custom engraved and filled with gold. 8) The college seems to often be in a state of staffing-change, which does not breed confidence. As a result (or perhaps due to other aspects) the college’s communication could only be described as poor. Students often complained of not being aware of policies until it was too late and they were in the process of being removed from the program. 9) They will remove you from the program for many reasons and the process will be quick. 10) They continually advertise the program as being online and allowing for flexibility, however this is only somewhat true as you are penalized for posting late and expected to post at the beginning of the week. They often stated that if posting early was a problem that students could choose to work ahead a week or two so it allowed them to post when needed, however this was rarely possible as most instructors would not open the coursework for the week until the beginning of the week. 11) Their slogan is “I changed me” and in this program that was definitely true. Unfortunately that will require you going above and beyond what is being taught in order to ensure you become competent.
Ultimately, the tldr version is this : If you have 40 000 dollars sitting around, want to work in 2 years instead of 3, are a motivated learner (aka: you don’t have a history of slacking, cheating, or making excuses on a continual basis) who likes online learning, and for whatever reason you are not choosing Douglas college’s psych nursing program, this program may be right for you. It is a lot of work and you will be doing a lot of it on your own, however, at the end of two years, if you haven’t been culled, you will have your diploma.
In the end I did not get funding and have now spent the last month trying to get this $500 refundable deposit back as I had to withdraw. I have been spoken down to, told to review my “contract” which says nothing about a deposit and my request to speak to the head of the school has been denied multiple times.
DO NOT GO HERE!!! The staff do not help you nor do they care as long as they get paid at the end of the day!!!
After reading these reviews I am not going to enroll. Douglas College has a great staff support willing to really help you and answer all your questions.
I was placed in this school by WCB after a work site injury made it so I couldn’t perform my job tasks at the time. At first Stenberg felt great as people say the recruiters are your best friend and once you start your course you are the enemy. The recruiter was literally an actress and while I won’t say which one she can be seen daily on a Canadian t.v. station.
As the course began the teacher seemed very welcoming as if the school would fully support each of us with their best effort so we all succeed and make the school look great as we flood the workplace. Very quickly that same teacher became very ignorant. She mentioned several times that because she already had her degree we were to respect her, but she need not respect us. She also said anybody under a Doctor is basically a slave and as she was a Doctor it should be easy to see where we were.
She was an immigrant from India which I had no problem with. What I did have a problem with was that we had many such immigrants in our class and she treated them like dirt. As I was doing very well in the class I had no problem trying to help these people with their issues as the teacher may be occupied. I was quickly told I was not allowed.
While I did well on tests the teacher would seemingly take spite marks off of them and when confronted I was literally told I could not ask questions and then she began humiliating me in front of the class. I went to the staff about her behavior and they dismissed my problems.
Soon the entire class was in an anxiety state because of this woman and again I went to the staff to no avail other than to be angrily dismissed this time and told “It’s just how she and her culture are.” It was unbelievable.
For different parts of our course (Hospital Support Specialist) we had a Caucasian teacher who although she was much nicer to students she was clearly unqualified for her position. She constantly misspelled or mispronounced words and would change how tests were marked to accommodate. She wasted a huge portion of class time discussing her children. When it came time for clinical testing she passed people who’s needles had huge air bubbles in them and we were told our practicing equipment simply wasn’t up to par.
As I said I was doing well in the course including getting only 1 question wrong on our A&P exam, yet I still felt I wasn’t learning all I needed to in order to safely work in a hospital. I addressed this with WCB and was told no matter how bad the school was I had to prepare myself for a job in the industry. I was told that most learning is done on the job and although I understand that to a point a hospital setting is where someone should go in already highly trained and as confident as possible.
Within a few months our class size was cut in half. People who failed tests were not properly prepared by the teachers nor were they given a chance to prepare themselves or do a proper re-write. At this point what was left of the class and I got together to talk. They were all in the same mental state as me and I asked for us all to go to the administration, but they were understandably afraid that if they were to do this they may be removed from the program without the return of their tuition and no job to show for it. I had nothing to lose in my eyes so I went to admin and without naming names stated all the problems and that I was not the only one seeing them. We were told to change for our teachers and accept how they work. I had had enough and at that point dropped the course.
Months after I left I was still getting calls from some of the ESL mothers in the class telling me of the problems and their fears and asking whether I could help. This school is the furthest thing from what modern education should be. It actually hurts to know people take such advantage of others trying to better themselves. I really hope to see this school publicly shut down and all their problems brought to light.
If you have any concerns as an individual that may need attention to be able to make accommodations so that you could complete the course, don’t bother because Stenberg will just shove policy after policy down your throats and nothing will be done to accommodate you. This not only happened to myself, but to other individuals in my cohort as well.
The entire year Stenberg was cracking the whip about plagiarism from the students while they themselves gave us many photocopied books rather than actual texts they were from as well as making PDF copies of chapters in texts from a very expensive and good textbook of anatomy and physiology while they sent their students a very cheap and incomprehensible one that was not sufficient to learn about body systems.
Overall I’m very disappointed in this school and I feel robbed. If you want quality education, just go to the traditional schools. This one, although I have a good degree, was horrible. Be prepared to self teach if you do choose this school because they won’t help you with that.
0/5
Well, they are still working and people seems happy studying over there. So, there is always a place for fools, and Stenberg is the place!
Enjoy it and success taking the money from people who does not really have the money and just want to get a better education to have a better life. If there is a heaven or hell, let’s say Stenberg holds the position of a Purgatory!
SURREY — The vice-principal of a Christian independent school has been disciplined for failing to report the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl and punishing the victim, who refused to keep quiet.
SURREY — The vice-principal of a Christian independent school has been disciplined for failing to report the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl and punishing the victim, who refused to keep quiet.
Although the assault happened in 2002, the B.C. College of Teachers only recently concluded its investigation and found Steve Paras guilty of professional misconduct. It suspended his teaching licence for four months, saying his actions while principal of White Rock Christian Academy were physically, emotionally and intellectually abusive.
Paras resigned from the White Rock school in 2004 and took a job as vice-principal at nearby Regent Christian Academy in Surrey. That school suspended him temporarily this month but said he will return to his post in January after his licence is reinstated.
Neither Regent principal Paul Johnson, nor the chair of the school’s board of directors, Marvin Hunt, would say whether Paras is being paid during his time away from the school. “That is a decision of the board — a private decision,” said Hunt, who is also a Surrey city councillor.
Johnson said he will have no qualms about welcoming Paras back to his job as vice-principal. “I’ve known Steve for 23 years as a colleague because his school was just down the road from our school,” he said. “We knew that he had an absolutely pristine record prior to this accusation.
“He has been a man of character, in my opinion,” Johnson added. “This was a one-off in 2002-03.”
Paras, who appeared before the college during a closed-door hearing last May, admitted his misconduct. The college says in its discipline decision that Paras “was employed as a principal when he failed to report his knowledge of a sexual assault of a 13-year-old student by an adult male to either the Ministry of Children and Family Development or the police.
“In addition, he suspended her as a form of discipline and detained and isolated the student in a confined space for an inappropriate period of time during the initial investigation.”
In the decision posted on its website, the college says his actions as principal had jeopardized the safety and educational progress of particular students and threatened the integrity of the school.
“His misconduct constituted emotional, physical and intellectual abuse, which would cause a loss of self-esteem in the students and a loss of trust in the school system by the public,” the decision says. Although the two schools are religious independent schools, they receive partial funding from the Education Ministry.
In addition to his poor handling of the sexual assault, Paras admitted to:
– Making disrespectful and demeaning comments towards a student during religious studies.
– Making inappropriate comments during a school assembly speech.
– Violating the privacy of students by disclosing personal information to other students and parents.
– Issuing an improper assignment concerning circumcision to students in his Religious Studies class.
The mother of the 13-year-old girl said she is troubled that the man responsible for the sexual assault was never brought to trial but is relieved Paras has finally been punished for his actions.
She said the school tried to hide the facts while punishing her daughter. The girl — now 20 — often wondered why she had bothered to report the sexual assault since nothing happened, said her mother, who The Vancouver Sun is not identifying to protect the identity of her daughter.
“I think it’s good to let her know she wasn’t the bad one … she was the victim.”
Never go to a for-profit private post secondary!!! It will be the biggest mistake of your life. The teachers don’t give a s**t about your education and learning. It is always the same 2-3 teachers teaching the entire program and you are paying 10x more than regular government colleges/universities. If these private colleges are doing so well then why do they need to constantly promote and advertise their programs?
Don’t think of private colleges as an easy way out because not many places hire students from private colleges and you cannot transfer any credits to a well known college/university either. What a waste of my time and money.
If you want to succeed in life, go find a better well known institute that will give you the right training and teach you the real things you need to know.
As for the quality of the course, it was over simplistice and wouldnt have challenged anybody. I left after 6 weeks as I was disillusioned with the whole set up. I tried to get my fees of 10, 000 dollars refunded proportionate to the time I actually spent there. But, they refused point blank. I tried to get them to show some compassion and discretion by telling them that my wife and I were in poverty, partly due to her still being in the recovery process from having breast cancer ( chemo and a mastectomy). But they just laughed in my face and kept the money.
If you apply there, be especially wary of the grooming process, where you are praised to high heaven during the interview. This courting continues until you sign on the dotted line. Next thing you know, the red carpet is rapidly pulled from beneath your feet and you end up flat on your back with a sore bum and massive student loans to pay back, while stenberg laugh all the way to the bank………………STEER CLEAR AND GO TO A PUBLIC COLLEGE INSTEAD!
