  • It is definitely coming after main 5 IITs. But, after that, it is one of the best. I honestly feel that JU should be converted to IIT beacuse the brains will be getting facilities because modern research needs aid which is a sad but practical fact.
Hope to see it beyond all political turmoil and want to see it a shinning star!

  • Fantastic place to learn and grow as an all round individual. Spent 4 fruitful years as an undergrad in the Electrical Engineering Department. I would say that it is in no way inferior to the 4 IIT’s as far as the quality of engineering education in the core disciplines are concerned

    Overall Score: (4.72/5.00)
  • I studied electrical engineering there and in my time it was at par with the IIT’s. I do not think it is far behind even now from the four main IIT’s. In fact I would rate some departments better in JU.
JU’s USP is the all round development which comes your way when you study there. You meet the best brains from all faculties and it goes a long way in your overall getup.

    Overall Score: (4.72/5.00)
  • JU is best. First of all only best students go there and then it is so much affordable. Fees are less for good education. I was engineering student there. it is best in WB

  • well to be frank the JU is no longer behind the NIT’s but ahead of them and even Better than ISM dhanbad so do not worry be happy in joining jU

  • Hi folks,I must say Jadavpur University (JU) is one of the best places to study in India. In engineering colleges ranking it is just after the IITs,BITS Pilani,DCE & the top 3 NITs.I have seen many of the good students pursuing higher studies in top US universities.Last year one student from ECE went to Stanford! Also there are so many 99+ percentile score in CAT!Students across all department consistently rank among the top 10 in GATE!!.Also our cultural fest Sanskriti is a big hit in the region.Look out for the techno management fest Srijan which is still in its infancy.Campus placements are good but most of the big companies are not consistent due to ineptitude on part of the TPO.If this is taken care of then JU will be in the same league as the top NITs! I will provide a small look at the placements for the last 4 years:-ADOBE,YAHOO,AMAZON,DE SHAW,MAGMA DA,TEXAS INSTRUMENTS,MOTOROLA,CISCO,ATRENTA,DELOITTE,PWC,GENERAL ELECTRIC,SCHLUMBERGER(!!!),IOCL,BPCL,ONGC,COAL INDIA,C DOT,MARUTI,TATA MOTORS,ASHOK LEYLAND,CTS,TCS,INFOSYS.I suppose this is enough for the time being.JU lacks promotion among the student community.I hope this helps in someway.

  • Well JU is one of the good academic institutes at Kolkata as well WB. I think JU should be best at kolkata or India.

    Plz. think about that..

  • JU gave me the best possible life that i have come across yet. The place is amazing and i am all for it. I am whatever today because of Jadavpur University

  • It has been a pleasure for me to study in JU for four years as an undergrad engineering student. Overall, I believe that among the engineering colleges in India, JU commands a place right behind IITs and top NITs.
The overall quality of study, the experience and abilities of Professors, and the laboratory and workshop facilities are commendable. Job opportunities at JU are excellent. All top companies in India come here for recruitment and are never disappointed.
However, the overall attitude of the campus is more of a laid-back kind than proactive. While it is not the most enthusiastic and energetic environment, it is what makes JU unique. The lazy gossiping afternoons under the tree-shades or by that huge lake in the campus are what we miss the most after leaving the university.

    Overall Score: (4/5.00)
  • A stimulating and enterprising experience for all and sundry. The coolness and laid-back attitude of people associated with JU commands a special mention.

  • Hi, I am currently am Undergrad student in JU. Of course JU cannot be put in the same league as the IITs, but it commands a place in the rankings just after the IITs and BITS Pilani. The overall quality of students attending the institution is really good. However the Lab Facilities and workshops need to be upgraded. The quality of professors also needs to be improved. I hope that JU will be placed in the same category as the IITs.

  • JU is like my home. four years of undergrad (engineering) out there was amazing. the quality of teaching is at per with any renowned international university. on campus placement has improved significantly over the past few years and students are getting placed in more and more MNCs than ever. The facilities like lab, workshops can get better though. the way our professors groom us, the budding engineers is almost an example for any professional organization in and around asia. we do have excellent faculty, good work environment and special trainings opportunities for outstanding students. we also learn the lesson of life apart from studying. overall it’s the hard work of students and dedication of our beloved professors that make us stand out from thousands of engineering colleges across india. I would love to see my dear university to be a center of academic excellence in next few years.

  • Well JU was my home for four years of my undergrad from 2004 June – 2008 May. Made lots of friends(from all different parts of WB), had lots of fun. Campussing is simply superb. Wonderful courses, glorious campus (don’t forget the stadium and the new Centre of Mobile Computing @ Salt Lake as well), great canteens, some great Profs as well namely PKD, SKR, CM in CS, Kamu in Mechanical (thats where my knowledge ends). I was in CS and the courses were not quite upto speed but I hear that has been changed from the batch after ours. If anything JU doesn’t teach you, it doesn’t teach you how to groom yourself for the outside world – life after graduation. You have to come up with that yourself (with the help of your friends maybe).

  • Anyone who has been a student at JU would appreciate & cherish that phase of his/her life immensely.
The casual (often callous) yet endearing attitude of fellow students, the plethora of different characters that you get to see, the reasonable amount of history that the place has and most importantly the general vibe of the place rub off a positive impression on almost everyone.
Academically , this used to be one of the most respected of regional colleges in the nation and that fame was not ill-deserved – though it is now definitely on the decline.
Having interacted with students from different parts of the country from comparable institutions, I can vouch for the above statement.
JU’s administration, infrastructure & student body suffer from the eternal Bengali syndromes of self-pity and self-indulgence and hence is pathetic and absolutely hostile to any creative, intelligent or even logical development.
Campusing is great .. thanks to the performance of the students who have passed out & it has very little to owe to the system of education here. Barring a few of the senior members, the faculty is abysmal ( at least in the CS dept) and the coursework used to be outdated and geared for the same mug-&-spew stuff that constitutes the general state of education in the state.
Add to it the mad craze of applying abroad that has led students to become yes-men/women of those faculty who can presumably write “good recommendations” and whose research projects are nithing but extensive software engineering exercises.
However JU leaves an indelible impression that can work both ways for you – it inculcates a sense of belonging & fraternity, teaches you how to be patient and in the end leaves you with a good taste in the mouth by “helping” you bag a job with the big bucks – definitely worth attending if you are not admitted into an IIT or BITS or the top 4 NIT’s.
At par with DCE, NSIT, & Thapar .

  • I have spent 4 glorious years in this college as an engineering student. The college is always full of commotion, even in holidays. The engineering faculty is full of boys (a ratio of about 40:1 to girls) while the arts faculty is just the opposite and is of top quality :D
