School of Planning and Architecture is one of the premier institution in the field of planning and architecture providing quality education to the future planners and architects who will shape the and modify from buildings to cities. Taking into account the increasing demand of the architectural and planning education in the country the Human Resource ministry started two more similar institution with same name in Vijaywada and Bhopal.
School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi is popularly know as S.P.A. (Don’t pronounce like spas). It is located in Capital City of India. And specializes in education and research in the field of Planning and Architecture.
Being educated and graduated from this institution gives me an insight into the institution, its ideals, practices, achievement and the prospects.
You might find that this college is ranked lower in the list of best architectural and planning college which is due to the parameters that the rating agencies consider.
The institution of SPA believes in holistic development of the personality of the students.
Now let’s have a discussion on how it good and how it a bit bad (from other’s perspective).
The college has multi-disciplinary approach and the institution is forerunner in developing the curriculum and courses to meet the demand of the market. This institution in pioneer in launching many course in planning like regional planning, housing, transport planning, environmental planning, urban planning at post graduation level.
It has good number of intakes of students at bachelor level.
I am not going to give you all the details here. You can visit the website of the institution, what I am going to tell you is something more than what you can find anywhere as least written and published as these things are so internalised in the students and the environment of the institution that we rarely notice that.
The institution has strong interface with the planning and development agencies and direct contact with many planning and architectural firms based around the country. The university has collaboration with other colleges too.
Being located in Delhi, the institution reaps the benefit of getting training and real life experience on their own that and the working professional often visit the institution to provide the most needed interface between the academic and the practice.
This is one of the campus where you will find more interactive sessions among the students and faculty. The openness of the cultural environment can be assessed from the fact that the hostel of the institution is co-ed in real sense of term. The restrictions of time of entry and exit is on paper only and we are responsible enough to manage that.
The rating agencies decrease our ranks as we have only limited area of campus due to its location in the prime land of Delhi. There is proposal for shifting the campus then its ranking will surely shoot up.
The institution has the largest collection of architectural and planning books and it can boast of having the largest dedicated library of this stream in entire Asia.
The life at campus and hostel is awesome. You can feel it and enjoy it and such environment is comparably available in Indian Institute of Management.
We will share and discuss more. I have started the string. You are most welcome to add your experiences too.
